  • THE CULLOWHEE YODEL PERSONALS Miss Kate Welsh, teacher in the Sylva Schools, spent a recent weekend as the guest of Miss Maudine Allen. Mr. Thomas Roberson, a graduate of the class of 1024, was present for the opening meeting of the Erosophian Literary Society. Mr. Roberson is teaching near his home at Hominy, N. C. Success to him! Mr. Mitchell Plemmons, a recent graduate of the Normal, is teaching at John's Creek. He frequents Cullowhee during his week-ends, and is always a welcome visitor. Miss Margaret Flintom left last week for Peabody College where she will pursue work toward her Bachelor's degree. The Normal teachers and students are sorry to learn of the resignation of Dr. Clarence McClellan, Jr. Rector of Episcopal Church, who has accepted a call to the Episcopal Church at Fletcher. We shall miss him very much. Recent visitors of former students to the Cullowhee Normal were Nettie Franklin, Emelyn Daniels, Luke Long, Percy Parker, William Bryson Misses Bertha and Clara Buntain, Bryant Chambers. Miss Zarah Rogers has received a government appointment to an Indian School in Oklahoma. Her address is Sequoyah O. T. School, Tale- quah, Okla. Mrs. H. T. Hunter has been visiting her mother, Mrs. R. H. Weaver, at Weaverville. The Western Division of the North Carolina Education Association convened in Asheville Oct. 9th to 11th. Prof. Wade Alexander, Principal of the Demonstration School, and the faculty attended the meeting. President H. T. Hunter, Miss Nettie Brogdon, County Supervisor, Misses Annie Ray, Virginia Bryan, Lydia Bancroft, Vivian Blackstock, Martha Armstrong, Alice Benton, Mary Hunter, Mrs. G. B. Arnold, attended also. Miss Laura Kate Miller has accepted a position as teacher in the Birmingham Public Schools. Miss lone Hill is attending Asheville High School this year. Mrs. Frank Brown, Mrs. Mary Flintom and Miss Eleanor Gladstone motored to Waynesville to attend the wedding of Mr. A. W. Lynch. Mr. and Mrs. Cox and daughter, Hannah, together with Miss Daisy Davies, are making a trip by motor to Pittsburg. The Baptist Young People of the Normal and community are manifesting great interest in the B. Y. P. U. Mr. Wade Alexander conducted services at the Baptist Church Sunday, Oct. 5th, during the absence of the The library has recently added to its purchases an excellent set of Stoddard's Lectures. Mrs. George Haynes of Clyde was i guest of her daughter, Hilda, who s in the Normal School. The Epworth League of the Methodist Church was reorganized Sunday evening, Oct. 5th. Officers for the quarter were elected. The membership of the League consists of fifty young men and women. Come out Sunday and join us! Miss Edith Terrell, a former student of the Normal, was a guest at the Moore Dormitory last week-end. Misses Emily Sword and Ella Mc- Comb who are teaching at Andrews this year spent Saturday evening with Annie Sword at Moore Dormitory. Mrs. Arnold, instructor of Voice at Cullowhee has organized a Glee Club for both young men and young women. Anticipations are great for their first appearances The Cullowhee Normal has agreed to enter the Triangular Debate for young women with Mars Hill College, and Asheville Normal. The party included Misses Betty deBerry, Agnes Cloninger, Annie Sawyer, Annie Sword and Elizabeth Ford. A former student of Cullowhee Normal and member of Columbian Literary Society, Hon. Felix Alley made an illuminating and interesting address upon the issues of the day, Jn, the school auditorium, Tuesday evening, October 7th. Mrs. W. E.
