During fair time, they started playing stickball on Tuesday. They started playing at noon. In the morning, they used quails to race. Then there were archery contests. There were dances at the fair. A lot of different (Cherokee) Indians would come. Then they would square dance. Four or five groups would come from Asheville. Square dance groups came from as far away as Tennessee. During the week of the fair, we would get little pieces of paper to ride the rides.
