  • PIG PEN - near Homer Caldwell Place Ca-23 on Shanty Mountain Trail, Cataloochee NC File No. III-F-12610 Neg. No. 12610 In the fall of the year, the pigs were turned out into the forest to fatten on chestnut and acorn mast. To prevent the pigs from wandering too far away and to facilitate the catching of the pigs, they were fed a ration of corn at regular intervals in the pen.
