Committee. It shall have the power to do any and all things which it may deem for the good of the Association, just as the Association would or could do in annual convention. It shall elect a President and Secretary and Treasurer in the event of the death, resignation or removal of either of these officers. VII. The funds of this Association shall only be used for the legitimate business of the Association, which shall be de rived from initiation fees, dues, donations, etc. VIII. Any person, firm or corporation may become a member of this Association upon the payment to the Secretary and Treas urer of Dollars as V*^ initiation fee, v^kich. member shall pay annual dues of Dollars. IX. The number of Directors shall consist of members, to be elected by the annual conventions, and also of one Director additional for each auxiliary of this Association provided said auxiliary have a membership of not less than twenty-five. 3.

Description

This item includes two drafts of a 5-page document that outlines the by-laws of the Appalachian National Park Association. The original by-laws proposed that the organization be named the “Southern National Park Association” but, by the time it was established, the organization settled on the name “Appalachian.” Its name reflected the association’s specific interest in advocating for a park located in the mountains. Its earliest documents reveal that their preference was for the western North Carolina mountains, but in order to gain support from other states, they expanded the scope of their proposal.
