  • wcu_craft_revival-6564.jpg
  • This undated photograph is of a display of Cherokee baskets made by the Minda Wolfe family. Minda Hill Sequoyah Wolfe (1897-1983) was part of an active basket weaving family. Her sister, Alice Sequoyah Walkingstick demonstrated basketry at the Oconaluftee Indian Village. Wolfe taught five daughters to weave: Dinah Wolfe, Lillian Crowe, Annie James, Katie Panther, and Ollie Crowe. The family made a variety of ribbed white oak baskets. They dyed with a variety of native plants to achieve a natural coloration. The photographer's name is unknown.
