Appalachian Club: station

  • Fifty acres of land were purchased from the Little River Lumber Company at Elkmont to form the Appalachian Club in 1910. Originally conceived of as a hunting preserve, the club soon became popular as a family vacation destination. Families were able to ride the Little River Railroad train. A second club was formed after a group of citizens purchased the Wonderland Park Hotel. Club members purchased individual hotel rooms which were also rented out, much like today’s time share.
