The Hook Up is designed to address the dangers sur- rounding hook up culture and how to recognize and respond to them, Dinicola, a graduate of Bowdoin College and a veteran of several profes- sional theater companies, opened the evening with friendly introductions and a brief explanation of his job - getting people ex- cited about partaking in hook up culture the right way. It showcased her outstanding talents and thesls project for her Master's degree in Fine Arts. Several students pa- tiently waited around the entrance of the museum in anticipation for the exhibit to open. The conversations wafting around the room were light and welcoming as they engaged each other and staff, Refreshments including fruits, crackers, cheese and drinks were served. Upon entering the ex- hibit, Sepulveda stood tall in the middle of the room surrounded by family and friends. Cameras were flashing and people were enthralled by what they saw. The walls contained photos of diverse sizes and mages. The scene could be compared to a New York art gallery; beautiful and spectacular. Sepulveda is from a town north of Atlanta, Georgia. Her hometown is where she said she found her love ofthe arts, Her mother, Nora Sepul- always been talented. Ever since she was little, she has been making things. During her undergradu- ate career, Sepulveda studied studio art and graphic design at the Uni- versity of North Georgia in Dahlonega, Georgia. From there, she made her way to North Carolina and found herself at Western Carolina because of her love for the outdoors and the mountains, This can be seen in the images that she captures. She began her journey in December, when she Giscovered the process of capturing movement in Photos. Sepulveda stated, I love experimenting... with this project, and these photos, Tnever knew what I was going to get. Each photo represented something different and mainly displayed her fam- ily doing various everyday tasks. One image featured Sepulvedas sister working ona project. Even though the camera was mov- ing and the shot became blurry, Sepulveda man- aged to effectively capture the emotion and stress that her sister was experienc- ing. Her sister, Candice Sepulveda-Monaco, stated, these images capture our essence and what we were going through during the photo or even our life stories, Another photo was of Sepulveda-Monacos hus- band Brad Monaco. He is standing outside in front a lake looking off into the distance. Audience mem- bers later found out that he isa military veteran. His solemn expression was captured perfectly in the photo, It makes you feel good to bea part of her art, Brad Monaco stated. Sepulveda made sure to represent her entire family through her photos. A few of the images made itunclear what the sub- jects were doing, but they remained breath-taking. The dark backgrounds and light figures accentuated each other. It reminded me of my own family and how even in the dark, [can still find my way to the light when they are around. This was the first time Tenacity on display in the Donna Sepulveda art exhibit.
