Nancy Morgan, bursar in the WCU controllers office, said that WCU decided to change the online payment option because it was paying excessive 2008 there amounts of money to process student's will be a new payment system at West- online credit card payments. ern Carolina. Column By: Ashley Pittman staff writer Pees hears the rumors that haunt Greek Life and its mem- bers. Greeks are too closed minded. All Greeks care about is drinking and partying. Or my personal favorite , All Greeks pay for their friends. | myself cannot break down the stereotypes that are associated with these organizations but | do feel it is my duty to speak out on behalf of my fellow Greeks to tell the real side of the story. My experience at Western has ied me to know that getting involved around campus is the ultimate key to success. There is a club for just about anything that peaks student interest | and if you know common grammar rules you could even write for the newspaper. So what is it about Greek Life that offers so much more than. other campus organizations? cont. on pg. 5 The main reason why Western (http:// www.quotationspage.com/quotes/Franz_Kafka/ April 1, 2008 was choosing to switch plans was be- cause the university, as of last year, paid $180,000 on credit card fees, Morgan said. She also said that because WCU was trying to cut the fat or reduce costs, the university decided to change the online payment system. Now, in- stead of the university, students will . be charged a 2.75 percent nonrefund- able convenience fee for each payment made on PayPath. For example, if a student makes a payment of $1,500 on their account, _ their card will be charged $1,541.25. WCU will receive only the $1,500 owed on the students account and TouchNet will receive the remaining fee. In the past Western has paid the amount, but now students will have to pay the fee, Morgan said. Because the university did not. want to stop online payments all to- gether but still wanted to reduce costs, WCU teamed up with TouchNet, an online payment system which caters to over 700 colleges and universities, Morgan said. TouchNet will enable Western to continue to offer the online payment option without extra cost for the uni- versity. We dont want to stop credit card payments all together, Morgan said. Thats why we chose to use Pay- PayPath, Visa will no longer be accept- ed meaning students who pay with Visa will no longer be able to use th online system. 3 PayPath requires a 2.75 per- centage from each credit card charge cont. on pg.2 Cullowhee News pg. 2 World News pg. 3 Campus Life pg. 4-7 9orts pg. 10- Womens Basketball pg. 10 Greek Life Busted pg. 7 Editorials pg. 8-9 12 Reviews pg. 13-14 Provided by WCU Police.
