  • WCnewsmagazine 27 1-yard loss by Darius Fudge, Clark connected with fullback John Bush on 2" and goal from the 5 for a touchdown. With the score 14-7, Mars Hill finally looked to be wearing down on defense. The offense wasnt wearing down yet, as Jones ran for a 13-yard gain on 1* and 10 at the Mars Hill 12, but Sims threw an interception.on the next play to senior Francis Brown on the 48-yard line. After taking the field, the Catamount offense and quarterback Justin Clark made short work of the exhausted Lions D by throwing for a 48-yard touchdown to quick wide receiver Nick Miller on the first play of the drive. With a 21-7 lead in tow, the Cats forced Mars Hill to punt two more times in the game and stopped the Lions on downs once to hold on and win the game. While the Offense did look rusty, the Cats finally picked up their game in the fourth quarter. After starting the first three quarters by going 6 of 14 for 32 yards and an interception, quarterback Justin Clark finished the fourth quarter by going 3 of 6 for 62 yards and 2 touchdowns. That gave Clark 94 yards passing with 2 touchdowns and an interception on 9 of 20 passing for the game. The running game was led by senior Lamont Reid, whg finished the. a bt carries for 59 yards and a touchdo re per carry against the pesky Mars Hil Cats in catches with 3 for a total of 2 The Catamount D was led by | Brown, who finished the game with 9 tackles and 2 interce yt Sophomore safety isaac Green finished second on the team | tackles with 8 and also pulled in an interception. Junior defensiv: back Mitchell Dukes only had five taekles but pulled in the other oo ee interception and also contributed a sack. Junior defensive tackle Felipe Foster also had a sack and sophomore Darren Curtis combined with freshman Marcus Nelums to sack the Quarterback once. Senior Lamar Barnes forced a fumble while senior Primus Glover recovered one and also contributed 5 tackles. Curtis also recovered a fumble. The final Catamount deserving mention is senior linebacker James Conklin, who combined with Barnes forms the duo known to Cats players as the Bash Brothers. Conklin finished the night with 7 tackles including one for a 5-yard loss. Mars Hill was led by their quarterback Brandon Sims, who completed 13 of 24 passes for 108 yards, 1 touchdown and 4 interceptions. Sims also had 13 carries for 56 yards rushing. The Lions were led in rushing by George Washington and Antoine Jones. Washington finished the night with 9 carries for 76 yards rushing, and Jones carried the rock 23 times for 78 yards. The Lions defensive effort was spearheaded by Jeremy Stewart and Nathaniel Smith, who each finished with 7 tackles. Rashawn Champion pulled down the only interception of the night for Mars Hill. While the Cats O looked sluggish in the season opener, the Cats D still looked strong. The defense spent a majority. of the game on the field and still held the Lions to only 7 points. If the Catamount offense can provide the defense with some more points and time to rest like it did in the 4" quarter of the game, then there is no reason that the Catamounts should have a successful season.
