  • 18 WESTERN CAROLINIAN SPORTS March 07, 2001 The fcfog, The Kaf Vail Vicffwi f© McMahon's Ufesf Anfics By Servo Last week the World Wrestling Federation lost one of its greatest icons. Jerry "The King" Lawler resigned from the WWF last Tuesday in protest of the release of his wife and fellow WWF superstar Stacy "The Kat" Carter. Reports state that The Kat received her release as a result of conflicts she had with WWF officials backstage. Some speculate that these conflicts came to a head when The Kat was put in the recent storyline with The Right to Censor. Those sources also stated that Vince McMahon did not want to deal with these conflicts so he gave The Kat her release just before the taping of Smackdown on Tuesday night. Lawler was very upset with this decision and told Vince that if Carter goes, he goes. Vince did little to talk him out of it, stated Lawler on his official website, and soon afterwards, Lawler and his wife left the taping to fly to Memphis. Jerry Lawler has been the color commentator for WWF Raw for a few years now, and there is no one that can truly replace The King. However, Monday night, a. replacement did arise. Paul Heyman, the owner of ECW, filled in for the missing King alongside Jim Ross. Even though I could tell that Heyman was nervous, he filled the position admirably, and if he gets the job full time, I can imagine him being a very good color commentator in the future. Since ECW is all but officially over, we can expect WWF and WCW to be flooded with new talent. Both federations are hiring ex-ECW superstars to their rosters including the ECW Champion Rhino. Rhino is currently in the process of losing weight and will probably be introduced to WWF television sometime around Wrestlemania. In PWF news, the feud between The Violent Society and the rest of the PWF roster is getting more and more heated. Last week, since PWF commissioner Hardcore Harv has been out of action for a while, Pure Talent named himself the commissioner and booked the nights matches. Servo Sez: "Midgets = Ratings!" Al Snow, in an attempt to become WWF Commissioner, realizes that little people bring in the big bucks. MEN'S BENCH PRESS will occur Wednesday, March 21, at 8:00 p.m. in Reid weight room. How Old You Really Are After performing corrective hip surgery for former President Reagan's fractured hip recently, his orthopedic surgeon stated that Ronald Reagan's bone and muscle tissue were that of a much younger person, which will greatly help during his recovery period. Most people perceive that not everyone ages at the same rate. Some feel older than they are, while others look and act younger than their chronological age, i.e. age according to birth date. Now it is possible to compute one's health age, to put an actual number on the concept that an individual is often health-wise older or younger than their chronological age. The Good Health Practices Study identified seven health routines, while independent of each other, affect a person's longevity. A person's status regarding these seven habits are fed into a computer together with their height, weight, age, gender, and blood pressure. Using the date from the above-mentioned medical study, the person's health age can then be computed. Doctors Breslow and Belloc found that people following six to seven of the good health practices lived, on the average, 12.5 years longer than those only following zero to three good health practices. They also observed that the physical ability of those not following a healthful lifestyle was similar to that of people 20 to 30 years older who had good health habits. This illustrates the point that it is not just how long one lives, but how active and good one feels during all their years of life. The health practices that are most highly associated with longevity are regular physical activity, not smoking, and moderate or no use of alcohol.
