  • WESTERN CAROLINIAN NEWS February 21,2001 February 13 At 10:30 a.m., officers assisted EMS at the stairs of the fitness center with a student who was having trouble breathing. The student was transported to Harris Regional. At 1:00 p.m:, officers received a report from a female commuter student whose transferable parking permit was stolen out of her vehicle between 2-7 and 2-9. The vehicle had been unlocked. . At 1:35 p.m., officers received a report of a minor traffic accident in front of Bob's Minimart. At 3:30 p.m., officers received a report of a vehicle which had been broken into in the Walker A lot. Property had been taken out of the vehicle. While investigating this incident, officers found two other vehicles which had apparently been entered. One vehicle was ■ confirmed to have been entered and property taken, the other vehicle had only been attempted but did sustain some damage to its canvass top. As a result of a continuing investigation, officers obtained an arrest warrant on a male nhn-student for breaking and entering in connection to an incident which occurred on 2- 8 in Scott Hall. At 10:20 p.m., a student reported her jacket was stolen out of a dryer in Helder. At 11:02 p.m., officers stopped a male student for speeding on Old Cullowhee Rd. The student was cited for an unsafe speed violation. At 12:10 a.m., officers investigated a suspicious vehicle in the Walker A lot. It turned out the vehicle belonged to a student and nothing was wrong. At 2:52 a.m., officers arrested a female student for DWI on Central Drive. Intoxilyzer results were .15. February 14 At 4:10 p.m., officers responded to a fire alarm at Graham caused by physical plant workers working on the system. At 8:20 p.m., officers cited a male subject with failure todisplay an inspection certificate. At 10:20 p.m., officers charged a male student in Benton with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. At 12:23 a.m., officers were notified by a student security worker that a vehicle had rolled from its space and lodged against a sign in the Upper Harrill lot. No damage was done. At 12:56 a.m., officers charged a male student in Harrill with possession of marijuana and underage possession of alcohol. At 2:20 a.m., officers arrested a male student with DWI and also charged him with speeding. Intoxilyzer results were 12. At 5:24 a.m., officers discovered a fraudulent parking permit on a vehicle parked at Harrill. A university citation was issued to the owner of the vehicle. At 8:30 a.m., officers received information from security at SCC that a number of math textbooks had been taken from their campus on February 8 or 9. February 15 At 8:15 a.m., officers found a vehicle in the baseball lot which appeared to be wrecked. Officers notified the student's mother- owner, who sent a wrecker for the vehicle. At 1:08 p.m., a student reported that someone had broken into his car and stolen his stereo equipment while the car was parked in the Walker A lot between 2/13 and 2/15. At 5:20 p.m., a faculty member reported that someone had broken into his car while it was parked in the Coulter lot and stolen his wallet. At 8:05 p.m., officers assisted housing staff with a domestic dispute in Reynolds. At 1:31 a.m., officers cited a male student for exceeding a safe speed at Harrill. .At.1:54 a.m., officers responded to a noise complaint on the fourth floor of Leatherwood and escorted three females out of the residence hall. The incident was referred to housing. At 2:33 a.m., Haynes Electric Company reported that the alarm at Hoey was not working. At 4:15 a.m., residents of Scott reported that they saw a male who resembled the intoxicated subject who wandered into rooms in Scott last week. Officers could not locate the suspect. At 5:26 a.m., officers responded to a disturbance call in Buchanan where a male non- student was banging on his former girlfriend's room. Officers banned the subject from Buchanan. February 16 At 11:00 a.m. on 2/16, a student reported that someone had stolen a package, which belonged to him, from the mail in Scott. The investigation is continuing. At 12:50 p.m. on 2/16, a student reported that a window had been broken from his room on the third floor of Leatherwood Hall between 10:00 p.m. on 2/15 and 7:00 a.m. on 2/16. At 2:00 p.m. on 2/16, officers investigated a report of threats made in Harrill Hall. At 4:15 p.m. on 2/16, officers stopped a car for speeding and cited the female student driver for driving while her license was suspended. At 4:50 p.m. on 2/16, officers assisted Jackson County deputies who had an arrest warrant for an employee. The employee was not at work. At 10:29 p.m. on 2/16, officers checked a room on the fourth floor of Harrill Hall. No seart'h conducted at'tms time. February 17 At 12:35 a.m. on 2/17, officers assisted Jackson County Emergency Services with identifying a WCU student who was killed in a traffic accident on Buchanan Loop in Webster. At 12:50 a.m. on 2/17, a student worker reported suspicious activity in a vehicle in the Helder lot. Officers found a male and female student in the car and no illegal activity in progress. At 1:19 a.m. on 2/17, a student in Scott reported a suspicious male walking through the hallway who resembled the subject who walked into a female's room last week. Officers could not locate the subject. At 5:15 p. m. on 2/17, a student in Leatherwood reported that his car was damaged while it was parked south of Leatherwood between 7:00 p.m. on 2/16 and 11:30 a.m. on 2/17. At 1:09 a.m. on 2/18, housing staff reported a broken window on the second floor of Benton. At 3:55 a.m. on 2/18, officers stopped a vehicle for driving left of center and arrested the a male student for DWI. Intoxilyzer results were. 12%. At 9:35 a.m. on 2/18, officers responded to a noise complaint on the second floor of Benton. A resident was trying to get back at neighbors for keeping him awake at night. At 12:50 p.m. on 2/18, officers investigated a traffic accident at Brown. February 19 At 7:38 p.m. on 2/19, officers investigated the odor of marijuana on the ground floor of Albrights A room was searched but no contraband was, found. At 7:50 a.m., officers assisted housekeeping staff who were stuck on an elevator in Scott. At 9:00 a.m., a student in Scott reported that she had been receiving harassing phone calls for over a month. At 10:55 a.m., a member of the faculty reported that someone had drawn threatening graffiti on her office door in Belk. At 12:10 p.m., a student reported that her car was damaged by a hit & run driver while the car was parked at Leatherwood. At 4:30 p.m., student affairs staff reported a violation of the university computer policy on the second floor of Reynolds. Officers contacted the owner of the computer and referred him to student affairs and the computer center. At 9:10 p.m., officers investigated a traffic accident in the Creek Lot during the basketball game. At 1:20 a.m., officers arrested a male student on the third floor of Walker for underage possession of alcohol. A container of what appears to be hallucinogenic mushrooms was also found in the room and charges are pending lab analysis. A second male in the room was charged with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.
