MSIG Service Mountain Synagogue Interest Group will hold Friday evening services on November 21, ll)h(), at 7:30 p.m, at St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church in Franklin. Ill case of bad weather, services will be postponed to November 28. This will be announced on local radio Stations if necessary. An "Oneg Shabbat" and business meeting will follow the services. Alabama Theatre The Alabama Shakespeare Festival, the state theater of Alabama and one of the foremost regional touring groups in the U.S.. will present "Two Gentlemen of Verona" at Western Carolina Universitv at 8 p.m. Monday. Nov. 3. in Hoey Auditorium. The Shakespeare play is a comedy of love and friendship, and the complications that arise when those -two sentiments conflict. It is a light-hearted romp through forest and city by some of the funniest characters that the bard ever develped. It will be performed under the direction of.RusscI Trey/, winner of New York City's prestigious Drama Desk Award. Prior to the performance, the Alabama Shakespeare Festival will conduct four one-hour workshops on emapus. A workshop on the history of the festival and paly production will begin at 9 a.m. in the Little Theatre of Stillwell Science Building. It will be followed by a workshop on stage combat techniques at 10 a.m. in Reid Gymnasium dance studio. The third workshop will be an audition session at 11 a.m. for students interested in pursuing acting careers. Participants will be critiqued on their delivery of memorized audition pieces. fhe audition session, as well as a classroom workshop at 1 p.m. for Speech and theatre arts students, will be held in the Little 1 beatre. n»e Alabama Shakespeare Festival was founded ill 1972 In Martin I. I'latt who went to Anniston. Ala.. from Carnegie Mellon Universit) especial!) to become director of a community theater. The tirsl season was produced on a budget of $8,000 and brought Shakespeare classics to .1.000 people, fhe director and the actors were not paid but were housed and fed bv Anmsionians. In 1978. the festival began its first tour, a six week event that grew to 11 weeks in 1979 and brought Shakespeare's magic to more than 30,000 people in 11 stales. This vear the lour will Stretch over 12 weeks, and the festival's annual budget will top $50(1.(KM).
