  • January 17, L980/THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN/Page 7 Organizations and events Financial Aid Students seeking financial assistance for the 1980-81 academic year are urged to attend a meeting at 6 p.m. in the Grand Room of the University Center on Wednesday, January 23, 1980. Summer School information will be given and announcements will be made regarding changes in the manner of applying for federal assistance. With many families experiencing greater need for help with college expenses, students are urged to attend this meeting and to apply early. Blues concert Student Tickets for the January 23rd Memphis Blues Concert and for the January 28th Dave Chertok lecture are available at the information desk in the the University Center. Students may pick up available tickets at no charge by presenting a current I.D. card before 5 p.m. on the day of the performance. Students will not be admitted at the door without a current I.D. card and reserved ticket. All student tickets at the box office will be $2. Catamount meets The Catamount yearbook staff holds its meetings in the Catamount office on the second floor of Joyner building each Wednesday night at 7 p.m. If you are interested in page design, copy preparation, graphics, or any other aspect of yearbook production attend one of our meetings-we'll be sure to find something for you to do. Bus shuttle Starting Monday, January 21, WCU will be offering a new service for students who find themselves constantly stranded on campus due to lack of transportation. A bus shuttle will be running from Reid Gym everyday, every hour on the hour from noon to 9 p.m. The shuttle service is an experiment of Vice-Chancellor Stiilion which will be given a two week testing period. If the shuttle, which is free to the students, catches on then it will stay. The shuttle will be making stops at places such as the Jackson Plaza, the Sylva shopping center, and downtown Sylva. Medical records fhe deadline for receipt of applications to the Medical Record Administration Program is February 15 for consideration for entrance in the Fall Semester of 1980. Application forms are available in the Health Sciences office, Room 132, Moore Hall, and are to be returned to Mrs. Ruth de F. Flowers, RRA, Director of the Medical Record Administration Program, Moore Hall. KA Convention The WCU Kappa Alpha fraternity will host the 1980 Smith Province Convivium for all North Carolina KA chapters this weekend at Inn on the Plaza Hotel in Asheville. The Convivium is an annual event celebrated by KA chapters across the nation in honor of Robert E. Lee's birthday. Lee is regarded as the spiritual founder of the fraternity. Chapters participating in the Province Convivium include WCU, East Carolina, North Carolina-Chapel Hill, North Carolina State, Appalachian State, Davidson, Wake Forest and Duke. Events for the weekend include a disco Friday night, the Province Council meeting Saturday afternoon, and a banquet and a dance featuring the Spontanes on Saturday night. SAGLA meets An emergency meeting of the Student Association for Gov't and I.egai Affairs |SA(il.A| will be held Monday January 21 at 6:30 p.m. room 15 McKee. New officers |President and Vicc-Presidentl will be elected. All members are urged to attend. ATTENTION! SENIORS! SPRING SEMESTER SEMINARS-JOB HUNTING MINI-SEMINARS If you are graduating in May or August, now is the time to begin thinking about looking for a job. We will have a number of recruiters from business and government on campus during the Spring Semester. In order to interview, you must have a placement file and to begin a placement file, you need to attend the Mini-Seminar, "Introduction to Placement and Resume Preparation." This seminar schedule will begin on Monday, January 14. All seminars will be held in the Placement Office in the CAP Center. This program, known as GRAD II, was developed by the College Placement Council, Incorporated and has been converted for use at WCU by the Computer Center staff. GRAD II provides a means of assisting students and employers identify one another. The following companies are among those that will be recruiting on-campus during the next several weeks: Burroughs-Wellcome Company, Northwestern Bank, Milliken & Company, Wachovia Bank & Trust Company, Roses' Stores, Duke Power Company, NCR Corporation, Deloitte, Haskins & Sells, Sears, Roebuck and Company. Not recruiting on-campus but actively seeking employees: Eastern Airlines seeking flight attendants, Texas Instruments, Inc. seeking Math, Physics, and Information Systems majors, Prentice-Hall, Inc. Publishers seeking any major for textbook sales. Other similar opportunities are listed in the Placement Office. PACE Examination-The PACE exam is the examination required of most students for Federal employment. This examination is being given only once this year. In order to take the exam and become eligible for government employment, you must register between now and February 15. Application forms and other information is available in the Placement Office. This year, for the first time, we have arranged for the exam to be given on campus on March 22. Internships-Application forms are available for applying for Summer internships with the State of North Carolina. Application deadline is February 13. Applications for Washington Center for Learning Alternatives internship are also available. These are internships generally with the Federal government in the Washington, D.C. area. Application deadline is March 1. Summer Employment-Some Summer jobs are available with various Federal government agencies. These have varying application deadlines. Applications and complete information about these jobs are available in the Placement Office. We do know that the Environmental Protection Agency in Research Triangle Park is seeking Summer employees who are majoring in the biological and physical sciences. Application deadline is April 15. Also we have information available concerning employment with a number of Summer camps throughout the country and with some National Park concessionnaires.
