Nineteen positions were filled in Wednesday's election. Jim Davidson, with 72 votes won over R.Paul Smith's 26 for the Moore Hall seat. For the two positions in Reynolds Hall, incumbent Keith Roberts with 131 and Jim Shive with 68 outdid Donald "Prince" Patton's 40, Randy Teague's 35, Charles Home's 28, and CONTINUED page 2 . . ., Classes On For Friday Classes will be held Friday, as usual. Student body president Dwight Nelson made a valiant attempt to get afternoon classes cancelled in honor of Homecoming, but WCU Chancellor Jack Carlton decided otherwise. Based on a poll of the members of the academic affairs executive committee, the consensus, sail Carlton, "is not to suspend classes." Nelson made the request earlier this week and Carlton promised For Homecoming Queen 7 Finalists Announced Last night the seven members of the Homecoming Court were announced. Presentation of the seven will take place at Cat's Prowl activities Friday night at Memorial Stadium. The Queen and her Court will be announced the following day, Saturday, at half-time ceremonies during the WCU-Livingston University football contest. Since the number of votes polled by the seven members of the court has not been announced, the members of the court will here be listed In alphabetical order. Wendy Carter Brown of Jamestown, N.C, a junior Middle Grade Education Major, is a member of the Panhellenlc Council and of the Delta 2eta sorority, which sponsors her nomination. Cathy "Shag" Dixon, whose nomination Is sponsored by the WESTERN CAROLINIAN, Is a junior Speech and Theatre Arts major from Cullowhee. She Is a member of the University Players and Is a technical assistant Involved in set design for the Little Theatre. Catherine Lynn Fincher, a junior Health and Physical Education major from Tryon.N.C, is a sister of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, which sponsors her nomination, and is a member of the Women's Recreation Association, the Physical Education Club, and is the chairman of Zeta Tau Alpha's Membership Standards Committee. Mona Lee Gillespie, whose nomination is sponsored by the Alpha Xi Delta sorority, is a senior Middle Grade Education major from Smyrna, Ga. In addition to her membership in Alpha Xi Delta, she is also a member of the Student Advisory Committee, the Student North Carolina Association for Education, and is the head cheerleader for WCi". Wanda Louise Pate, is spon- »orea Dy the black Students United for Liberation. She is from Laurinburg, N,C, and is a sophomore majoring in Social Welfare. She is a member of the National Honor Society, a vice-president of her hall government, and is a delegate to the Youth Organization for Black Unity. Susan Gayie Proffitt, a sophomore Merchandising major from Black Mountain, N.C, is a member of the University Center Board and a former member of the University Chorus. The former second runner-up to Miss Catamount (1972) is sponsored by the Student Government Association. Kathryn Ann Vincoli of Fayet- teville, N.C., is a senior majoring in Social Welfare. She is the Crescent Girl for Lambda Chi Alpha, which sponsors her nomination to the Homecoming Court, On Four-Way Street Alumni Return To Campus Western Carolina University's 1972 homecoming celebration Oct. 14 will find alumni and friends return in g to WC U to take part in a variety of events centered around this year's homecoming theme, "Four-Way Street.'' The festivities will begin tonight at 7:30 when the annual powder-puff football game gets underway, Sophomore and junior sorority women will once again challenge their senior sisters in a battle of unusual proportions. The fraternities will furnish cheerleaders to spur on their favorites, The Cat's Prowl pep rally is set for Memorial Stadium Friday, October 13 at 8:00 pm to be followed by a 10 pm to 2 am dance in the Grandroom. Music will be provided by "Snatch" formerly "Blue Caboose," a Raleigh group. Also, Decatur Jones, a student foils-singer will perform. Admission is free to the UCB sponsored event, and the UC will remain open all night Friday, with refreshments served. Top billing among Saturday's events goes to the 2:00pm football game which will pit the Cats against the Livingston U, Tigers. A pre-game show is scheduled for l:45pm,andthere will be a coffee for alumni at the stadium following the game. Alumni registration will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in two locations—Hunter Library and Hinds University Center. The traditional alumr.i luncheon will be held at 12 o'clock in Brown Cafeteria. Evening events include a free student/aiumni concert featuring "Impact of Brass" at 8 p.m. in Reid Gym and a public dress rehearsal of Maxwell Anderson's "Wingless Victory," Curtain time for the play is 7:30 p.m, in the Little Theatre in Stillwell Building. Admission is free. Other homecoming activities include: ~a social hour and dinner at the Court Hill Inn in Sylva for alumni holding doctoral degrees In education, 5:30 p.m. Oct. 13. - -open house in campus residence halls from 10 a.m. until noon, Oct. 14. —at 10 a.m. Oct, 14, a series of programs including " What's New in Biology," "What's New in Education and Psychology," and a showing of the works of New York artist Madeliene Gekiere. The theme Four-Way Street reflects the university's position at the center of the intersection of several avenues of human endeavor. The theme was proposed by Sheila Brevard, a WCI junior from Henderson- ville, and was selected by the homecoming committee from a- mong many entries in a theme contest. Miss Brevard received a $50 award from the WCU Alumni Association for having submitted the winning theme. KATHRYN VINCOLI SGA Debates Visitation, Elections Debate over visitation policy and proposed revision of election procedure highlighted the SGA senatemeetinglastMonday evening. The resolution sponsored by the executive offices to "establish a standard guest visitation policy" was moved back into the rules committee following heated debate. Certain senators felt that passage of this resolution at this time would only cause more resentment between the senate and members of the Inter-hall advisory committee, who have been working on a visitation policy also. Senator Harold Rodgers said, "They've been working their tails off since last year," and indicated that the senate ought to wait until that policy is completed before enactment of the SGA proposal. Aside from this, there is presently another visitation policy in the office of the Chancellor, one passed by last year's senate, which had to be taken into consideration. Acting Vice Chancellor Douglas Davis addressed the senate and stated that the board of trustees might reject last year's policy due to the "scare factor" of possible seven-day visitation. The plan before the senate now proposes Friday visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., Saturday from 12 noon to 2:00 a.m„ and Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and would allow residence hall students to change any part of the plan by a majority vote of those in a CONTINUED page 2 , .. .
