THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN Monday, May 4, 1971 3 who LESSONS IN SPRING PLANTING are given to students helped plant flowers on campus last Saturday morning. Social Change, Ad Hoc circulating Peace Treaty The Committee for Social Change, WCU. and the Ad Hoc Committee to End the War will be circulating the People's Peace Treaty on campus Wednesday and Thursday of this WCCKo The Treaty, between the people of the U.S. and the people of S. Vietnam and N, Vietnam, begins with the phrase, "The American and Vietnamese people are not enemies," It calls for "immediate and total withdrawal" from Vietnam stating the war "drains America of her youth, and her honor." The treaty agrees to end the war in Vietnam on the terms that people might "live under the joy of Independence and can devote themselves to building a society based on human equality and respect for the earth." Suspended students readmitted Any undergraduate student, who has met all admission requirements, who has been aca= demically suspended and not yet readmitted, and who desires to attend during the summer sessions at WCU may do so by submitting an application for readmission at least two weeks prior to the beginning of the first summer session. If an appeal Is received after this date, there can be noassurance that this late petition will be processed. Further, if a late petition is approved, the student should expect to have to regis- ter during the late registration period and pay the late registration fee. Any undergraduate student who enrolls during one or both summer sessions and meets any one of the three academic ret» ention requirements will be eligible for the subsequent fall quarter enrollment, Letters to the Editor Reinhard (EDITOR'S NOTE: Dr. Herb Reinhard requested the CAROLINIAN print this letter to which he stated he has yet to receive an answer. The underltnings are added by the staff for emphasis.) MEMORANDUM TO: Principles of the Joint Treaty of Peace include that Americans pledge to stop imposing Thleu Ky and Khlem on the people of Vietnam in order to "insure their right to self determination, and to insure that all political prisoners are released." All who sign the treaty are pledged to take whatever actions are necessary to implement the terms of the treaty and to in - sure its acceptance by the U.S. government Mobile home show scheduled The University Center Board Special Events Committee is sponsoring a Mobile Home Show on May 4, 5 and 6 for students, faculty, and staff of Western Carolina University. The show will also be open to the general public. This event is to take place on the overflow parking lot behind Scott Residence Hall. The show features brand name mobile homes such as Kirkwood, Briarwood.ALreline, Norris, Lexington, and others to be displayed by area dealers. One mobile home dealer is giving away a portable T.V. to some lucky person who comes by, looks at their homes, and re- gisters for this prize. A mobile home show of this nature should be of special interest to married couples, day students and area mobile home park dealers The show will be open from 10 a,m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, May 4, 5 and 6. Everyone is cordially invited. PSI CHI, National Honor DELTA ZETA SORORITY MR. DAVID HUSK1NS, PRESIDENT STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION MR. STEVE COLLINS, VICE-PRESIDENT STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION HERB F. REINHARD I appreciate the efforts of the Rules Committee of the Student Senate, the Senate, and the leaders of the Student Government Association to bring about needed Improvement in the Student Govern- ment Constitution. It Is the desire of both the administration and the students to achieve improvement In the student government of the University. A copy of the proposed constitution has been received b> the Office for Student Development, and members of my steff are now studying this document with considerable Interest. I think It should be understood by all concerned that a new Constitution will not go In- effect until It has received approval by the Board of Trustees. At the time of Board consideration, the Trustees will expect a recommendatl- from the University President and the Office for Student Development. There are portions of the draft which need Improvement and a bringing Into an order which will permit me to recommend the Constitution to the President. It Is hoped that all of these changes can be worked out cooperatively with the Student Government Association be fore the proposed Constitution Is submitted to the study body In an election. Desirably, the draft to be submitted to the students would have received the prior endorsement of the University President: and such concurences could not be expected at this time. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss these changes with you at your earliest convenience and suggest that we Include Dr. Pov Dean Davis, and Professor Scott In our discussions. I would appreciate hearing from you in this regard HFR/acp cc: Mr. Greg Lockamy Mr. Sager Williams Dr. Alex 8. Pow Signs ripped down To whom it may concern: For those people who either ripped down or ripped off the signs around campus concern ■ ing the CSC. . . Your ripping them down tells us two things about you. The first Is that at least you're reading our signs, The second thing it tells us about you we could only describe In the kind of language certain individuals don't like to see printed in the CAROLINIAN. You're here to learn so why be ignorant? Come to our next meeting, May 4 at 6 p.m. In the Catamount room of the UC, Marc Hall Gail Stelngress Elections Dear Fellow Students, This Thursday, May 6, elections will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. In front of the UC. Over one third of next year's Student Senate will be elected, as well as Editor of the WESTERN CAROLINIAN and CATAMOUNT. Also, students will have the opportunity to approve the new SGA constitution. We, members of the Student Senate, urge all students to take advantage of their right to vote, and VOTE, That's THIS THUKSDAY. VOTE. Ruby Zimmerman Poison hand (EDITOR'S NOTE: It Is against staff policy to print a letter to the editor without the author's name. In the case of the following letter, though, the editor decided to print the unsigned letter.) To da Inimitable Cat's Paw (alias Feline Foot): I was grieviously offended, as usual, by your column of Thursday, April 22, the year of our lord 197L What really caught my eye, though, were your remarks on recent campus vandalism. I might as well admit now that I am said vandal, heretofore referred to as the Poison Hand. What do you mean, "How would you like it if I were to wee-wee on your meal tickets?" come on now-what kind of language is "wee-wee" for a college man? FAIRY interesting. . , Anyway, let me explain my motives. Most of the dorm students feel that Servomatlon Is the biggest rip-off on campus. All these struggling starving students, and they have the uidacity to charge such ridiculous prices. Shame on them! They even blew up their loss figures in your paper, common sense would tell you that Now I Issue an ultimatum to Servomatlon: Quit overcharging and I'll lay off. That would mean happy students, happy Servomatlon, telr prices, fair profit Otherwise, who knows? The Poison Hand might become Poison Hands,Inc. As for you, Paw, get your head out of your ass and look around. If you did, and stop calling people apes, you would have a hell of a better column. Start showing more than one side of things. Obviously, I can not sign my real name. All Power to the Peoplel P. H, The Poison Hand Contact LOST: Blue Parker pen in or around UC during symposium.
