  • 8 THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN Thursday, March 4, 1971 One act plays woman are portrayed by John Fahnestock and Sonja Beckham. This is the story of a fanatic intellectual who kidnaps a young wife-mother in a stationery store. His intentions are rather vague and the audience wonders if he wants to kUl this woman or make love to her. But, like almost always, there is a coming together as these two people eventually discuss the problems of the world and then end up in bed together. This intimacy is portrayed rather subtly and Fahnestock does a commendable job in the transition of his character from eccentric and fanatical to a kind of nice guy. This change of character Is done quite smoothly and Fahnestock does it with credibility,. Director of THE TIGER is Vernon Smith. CRAWLING ARNOLD, by Jules Feiffer, is directed for Rev. Waldron (Barry) gives one of, if not the best performances of the night in his very visual presentation of an eccentric, obviously virile old man. Miss Black is also well cast as his wife. The two definitely compliment each other, but Waldron could carry the humor of the play alone with his terrifically funny antics and stage move ments. Anne Robbins :s on the brink of breaking character as she almost (but not quite) laughs at some of the comedy in the play. Freeman is genuinely enthusiastic in his role and projects his fervor into the audience. Vernelle Mills CMiliie) Is the family servant and the audience will be amused each time she swings onto the stage, and especially when she speaks Settings for the one acts were designed by William S. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR .... FROM Page 5 view was a narrow one. Mr. Bennet feels that as long as a person is expressing only his per- sonal opinion, that person should never be "classified as narrow-minded." I pose this auestion— in what other manner can one be narrow-minded but in his opinions and attitudes and the actions resulting from these attitudes? In closing. I regret that Mr, Bennet has misinterpreted my remarks or drawn a confused picture of the ideas I was attempting to present. I did not imply that Christianity as a whole was a "fad," and 1 can not see the reasoning behind Mr, Bennet's viewpoint on narrow mindedness, therefore, I discount Mr. Bennet's two "disagreements."
