The Fearless Forecaster Has Returned Youth To Fill Openings Our fearless forecaster has gotten over the humility of so many incorrect predictions in the past and has decided to try again. Here is how the outlook stands: Presbyterian vs Appalachian — The Blue Hose have started to move their offense in the past few games, and should be too much for the young Mountaineers. Presbyterian by 20-7. Catawba vs. Wofford — The Indians will go on the warpath against Wofford. Their talented offense will score a 27-13 victory. Elon vs. Newberry — The battle of the two cellar-dwelling teams should end in a victory for Newberry. The Indians over Elon, 13-7. Randolph-Macon vs. Guilford — Guilford won't be able to penetrate the R-M defense and will fall, 21-7. Lenoir Rhyne vs. East Carolina— Conference leaders LR will meet their match when they confront the Pirates. ECC over the Bears, 26-7. Western Carolina vs. Open Date U — Open Date U has seriously thought of giving up football, and they might have to after the tough WCC defense finishes with them. The Catamounts over the ODU eleven, 28-0. WCC's "Big Men" from left to right: Gene Tebben, 6'8"; Dale Beaver, 6'7"; Greg Wittman, 6'8"; and Jim Miller, 67". Last season, the Cats proved adequate in the scoring column, but lost several games on the lack of defensive rebounding. Coach Jim Gudger hopes to have solved the problem with a trio of rangy prep standouts and a pair of holdovers. 6'8" Greg Wittman from Rockingham; 6'7" Jim Miller, hailing from Sturgis, Michigan; and 6'8" Gene Tebben of Asheville are the talented freshmen that the coaching staff is hoping will fill the order. Bob Thompson, a 6'5" sophomore from Charlotte who has yet to see college action and 6'7" Dale Beaver, a Rockwell sophomore are the holdovers. Wittman played in the East- West All Star game in August and was touted as one of the state's finest cagers. Tebben, also an East-West participant, garnered every conceivable honor at Lee Edwards High last year including All America and All State. Miller set a state record in the high jump last spring and leaps equally well on the basketball court. Beaver, with a year of experience under his belt, will see plenty of action at the pivot this winter. Thompson has all the credentials for play under the boards — agressiveness and strength to boot — as he tries for a forward berth. John Brintnall, last season's leading rebounder, will welcome the help. Brintnall, at 6'5", was the smallest center in the conference a year ago, but averaged 14 rebounds per game. The Bryson City senior will return to a forward post as he goes for his fourth letter. With Henry Logan and Charlie McConnell scorching the nets and the big boys bringing down the rebounds, the forecast is for many exciting games in Reid Gymnasium. The Catamounts open up the 65-66 season November 24th at Piedmont College and kick the lid off the home schedule November 30th against those same Lions.
