Coulter made the announcement at the Ramsey Center and said Possinger would take over officially March 14 for Herb Krusen, who served as the Catamounts' coach for the 1987-88 season. Krusen was named Interim head coach for the season last Nov. 23 when Steve Cottrell resigned as head coach after 10 years of leading the Catamounts' Division I program. Western has gone 18-38 the last two seasons and missed the Southern Conference tournament this year for the first time ever after finishing last in the league standings. The announcement of the new coach capped a search Possinger that lasted almost the entire basketball season. The On-Farm Seed Production project In Senegal and Gambia Is assisting small farmers to develop and maintain their own seed stock. Most African farmers use their own seed, but because of storage problems alone, they lose more than half to rodents and mold, says Nancy Blanks of WCU's Center for Improving Mountain Living. With better seed production and storage techniques, the people of Senegal and Gambia should be able to upgrade thelrlncome, nutrition and general well-being, Blanks says. The project will take Improved seed technol- see AFRICA next page Ground Breaking for N.C.Teaching Center Planned Groundbreaking for the new North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching Is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 17. The center will be constructed on a 20-acre site along NC 107, adjacent to the Western Carolina University campus. Actual work on the project will begin on March 14, according to Tal Lee of Foy & Lee Associated of Waynesville, architects. Targeted completion date is March 4,1990. R. Bruce McPherson, director of NCCAT. said, "These gracious new facilities will be appreciated deeply by our board of trustees, staff and especially the outstanding North Carolina teachers whom we all serve."
