PAGE 18 WESTERN CAROLINIAN SPECIAL FALL ISSUE The Cullowhee Area: what's here FROM PAGE 16 Gatlinburg The final place we'll discuss is Gatlinburg. On October 18 - 23 this year will be the Gatlinburg Craftsmen's Fair, held in the Civic Auditorium from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. This gathering is famous in this area. Gatlinburg also features a year- round ice skating arena open for three-hour intervals at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Late night session are held Friday and Satuiday from 10 p.m. to 12 midnight. Cost is $2 for adults and $1.25 for .children under twelve; all skate rentals are fifty cents. Also year-round skiing is available on Gatlinburg's artificial ski surface. The slope is ideal for beginners as well as advanced skiers. The 200,000-square-foot surfact provides a good base for snow in the winter. A beginner's package, including instruction by PSIA affiliated ski school, a lift ticket and all equipment needed for skiing (2 hours) can be purchased for $8. Skiing is from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. For first two hours pay $6 and $2 for each additional hour. Rates include all equipment and facilities needed. (All ski and skate rates are good through November.)
