  • SADIE HAWKINS DAY at Western Carolino College comes to its logical (?) conclusion. Marryin' Sam the Rev. M. V. Thumm) unites triumphant Daisy Mae (Lena Franklin of Burnsville) and Li'l Abner (Herman Searcy of Draper) in his big ($8) wedding. It was a mock ceremony, of course. Sadie Hawkins Day Ends— Nateherly—With Wadding CULLOWHEE, Dec. 1 - Sadie Hawkins Day at Western Carolina College ended yesterday with a bigj !$8) wedding performed by the Rev. M. V. (Marryin' Sam) JThumm. Judges selected Lena (Franklin of Burnsville as Daisj^j Mae, and Herman Searcy of Draper was chosen Li'l Absuj:, are traditionally joined in a mock wedding. Miss Helen Hartshorn of the'cet^ lege physical education faculty, received the prize for the best costume among the girls. She was dressed as Mammy Yokum. Duane Oliver of Hazelwood, dressed as Li'l Abner, got the award for the best boy's costume. , This annual event is sponsored by the Women's Athletic Association of WCC, whose president is Miss Harriett Gibson of Waynesville. Other officers are Mary Ada Benson, Waynesville, vice president; Kay Siewert of Cullowhee, 'secretary-treasurer; and Marcia Williams of «gta, reporter. TEACHERS TO BE, some 76 students from Western Carolina College toured city schools here yesterday. Among those spending the day in Asheville schools (listed with subjects they will teach) were, (L to R): seated, Betty Whisnant, Eliza- bethton, Tenn., elementary English; Peggy Griffin, Greensboro, high school English and social science. Standing, Richard Thompson, Highlands, elementary education; Phyllis Cogburn, Candler, high school Spanish; Joe Ramsey, Walnut, high -school social science; Charles Shuford, Barnardsville, high school physical education and industrial art; Elizabeth Thomas, Spartanburg, S.
