Traditional Craftsmanship by Butch and Louise Goings
Item
Item’s are ‘child’ level descriptions to ‘parent’ objects, (e.g. one page of a whole book).
-
The four-page brochure, “Traditional Craftsmanship by Butch and Louise Goings,” feature work by two well-known Cherokee artisans. Both are members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Louise Taylor Goings (b. 1947) is a basket weaver who learned from her mother, Emma Taylor. Both worked primarily in white oak. Butch Taylor (b. 1942) is a wood carver who learned his craft in high school under Amanda Crowe. The couple makes their home in Birdtown, on the Qualla Boundary. The brochure is not dated, nor does it indicate the location of the exhibition but, most likely, the exhibition was sponsored by Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual, Inc.
