"What happened to you ?'' ' Shot,'' was the reply. Further inquiries brought out that he was holding a 38-calibre revolver in his hand and it was accidently discharged. An hour later we were told of the death of a former Champion employee who had entered his home, in an adjoining township, a day or two before, and attempted to stand a shotgun in a corner of the room for safe keeping. While he was doing this, the gun went off. We ran across this article published in the October issue of the Spanish River News: MAN SHOT FOR A MOOSE "Although the hunting season for moose is not as yet open the season for the careless man with agunisopen 365 days in the year. Between 1914 and the late 1960s, the Champion Fibre Company published an internal newsletter, called The Log, to share news about the Canton mill, the community, and its employees. After 1940, news from the entire “Champion Family,” which included mills in Hamilton, Ohio; Houston, Texas and Sandersville, Georgia, was featured in each issue.
