Swain County High School Class Trip to Washington D.C., 1961

  • This 1961 Swain County High School Senior class photograph was taken in front of the United States Capitol in Washington D.C. Each year from as early as 1953 until about 2015, Swain County seniors took a trip from Bryson City, North Carolina to the District of Columbia, with high school teachers as their chaperones. Until 1970 the trip was made by a combination of bus and train via Southern Railway. Starting in 1971 a bus was taken the entire way. All names are read left to right.
