  • ROCKEFELLER AGREEMENT COPY UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR NATIONAL PARK SERVICE address only WASHINGTON The Director National Park Service April 5, 1928. The Equitable Trust Company of New York, 11 Broad Street, New York City. Attention: Mr. Graeber, Trust Officer. Dear Sirs: My records as Chairman of the Trustees of the Great Smoky Mountains Memorial Fund show certification to you of two amounts, namely $149,693.42 cash contributions received by the State of Tennessee against which a requisition of $140,000 has been entered with you. This is under Section "B" of the Memorial letter of March 30. Under Section "C" certification has already been made to you of the evidence necessary to release the $500,000 to match the Little River Lumber Company tract for requisition. Certain evidence was presented to you to release this amount for disbursement, but you did not consider the evidence sufficient, so steps are being taken to supply the necessary evidence. Mr. Chorley, of the Memorial, advised me before leaving New York Wednesday that such evidence as has been presented, however, has been now conceded sufficient for the purpose. Of course, I do not desire to advise the other members of the Board of Trustees unless I have official notice from you. Would it be asking too much of you to advise me, as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, with carbon copies to the other two members, whenever a certification for matching funds under the terms "A", "B" and "C" has been found sufficient by your company, and also whenever requisitions for funds have been honored? This applies to the two cases above mentioned, both as to certification and as to requisition, of which we have no official notice from you that they are satisfactory. The mailing addresses of the respective members of the Board of Trustees are as follows: Arno B. • This North Carolina Park Commission Report was completed at the close of 1939 and submitted to North Carolina Governor Clyde R. Hoey. The 62-page publication, compiled for the Commission by Albert H. Blake, begins with a letter to the governor reporting that all of the land on the North Carolina side of the park has been purchased and conveyed to the federal government. The report includes an auditor’s report, information about the Rockefeller fund, and a copy of the 1927 law that brought the commission into being. The report includes lists tracts of land, family names, and values paid for purchase. W.W. Neal was chairman of the commission at the time and G.F. Hankins was secretary.
