Log Cabin Association Elementary - early Jackson County school

  • This undated photograph shows Log Cabin Association Elementary School which opened in the fall of 1950 with W. (Weston) Carr Hooper (1903-1981), as its principal. The school was located on Highway 441 and consolidated Barkers Creek, Dix (Dicks) Creek, and Wilmot Schools. The building was one of three elementary schools built in the 1950s. The school had eight classrooms, a gym, library, cafeteria, office, and two sets of restrooms. Log Cabin Association Elementary School closed in 1980 and consolidated with Qualla School to form Smokey Mountain Elementary School (currently in use since 1980).
