Served in the Pacific Theatre of War. Trained for radar work and was sent to Corregidor, Philippine Islands. PFC. LOUIS R. KILBY, East LaPorte, N. C, son of Mr. and Mrs. loseph Kilby. Inducted Dec, 1943. Trained at Camp Shelby, Miss., Fort Mead, Md. Served in the European Theatre of War. Citations or medals: Four Bronze Service Stars, Presidential Citation, Purple Heart. Served in four major battles, Normandy, Northern France, Central Europe, and the Rhine. Wounded Sept. 17, 1944. Discharged Nov., 1945. SGT. JAMES R. KINDLEY, Monroe, N. C, husband of Mrs. James R. Kindley. Inducted Nov. 22, 1943. Trained at Camp Gordon Johnson. Served in the Pacific Theatre of War. With Amphibious Engineers on New Guinea, Bougainville, Guadalcanal, Holleandia, New Hebrides, and Philippines. Discharged Dec. 17, 1945. WATER TENDER 3/c WILLARD P. KITCHIN, Whittier, N. C, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Ktichin. Inducted Mar. 21, 1944. Trained at Bainbridge, Md., and Norfolk, Va. Served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of War. Citations and medals: Asiatic- Pacific with 4 Stars, Philippine Liberation with 2 Stars, American Theatre, and Victory. Was in the invasion of the Philippines, Lingulf, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and raids on the Japanese homelands. Discharged Feb. 24, 1946. P. M. 2/c WILLIS REEVIS KITCHIN, Whittier, N. C, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Kit- chin. Inducted Feb. 18, 1943. Trained at Bainbridge, Md., Corpus Christi Tex. Served in the European and Asiatic-Pacific Theatres of War. Only action seen was when the ship sank a German submarine, taking 16 prisoners and delivering them to Brazil. Discharged Dec. 21, 1945. 2nd. COOK VERNON ODELL LOVEDAHL, Cowarts, N. C, son of Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Lovedahl and husband of Mildred Coward Lovedahl. Volunteered for the Naval Air Corps Sept., 1940. Served in the Atlantic Theatre of War. Was instructor in Gunnery for 18 months. Hearing was affected and was given rank as 2nd Cook. Discharged Dec, 1945. METALSMiTH 2/c CECIL C. McCLURE, Sylva, N. C, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond McClure. Inducted July 3, 1943. Trained at Bainbridge, Md., San Diego, Cal., and San Francisco, Cal. Served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of War. Citations or medals: American Theatre, Victory, Asiatic-Pacific Served on U. S. S. Proteus Sub Tender. Went with Third Fleet into Tokyo and was there when surrender terms were signed. Discharged Mar. 1, 1946. CPL. JACK W. McCLURE, Sylva, N. C, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond McClure. Inducted Apr. 2, 1943. Trained at Camp Blanding, Fla., Camp Rucker, Ala., and Camp Robinson, Ark. Served in the European Theatre of War. Citations or'medals: American Theatre, Service, Good Conduct, European Theatre, Victory, Combat Infantry, and 3 Battle Stars. Was captured and remained prisoner of war for lxh months. Discharged Nov. 21, 1945. GM 3/c ROY C. McCLURE, Sylva ,N. C, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond McClure Inducted Dec. 29, 1943.
