Interview with John Bulgin, blacksmith

Item
?

Item’s are ‘child’ level descriptions to ‘parent’ objects, (e.g. one page of a whole book).

  • This is a transcript of an interview of blacksmith John Bulgin conducted by Edward Dupuy and Clifford Hotchkiss in 1965. Blugin operated a forge in Franklin, N.C. and produced and sold metalwork during the Craft Revival period. Bulgin created mostly functional iron work such as tools and latches. He was taught by his father and is teaching his sons. In this interview, Bulgin relates some technical information about tempering and steel work. Dupuy's 1967 book "Artisans of the Appalachians" contains an essay on Bulgin that is based on this interview.
