Mrs. Homer Williams, of Hazel Creek, was called to Colleton on account of the illness of her father, Mr. Burch. The announcements of marriages since the last issue of "The Hardwood Bark" are: Mr. Gilbert Smith to Miss Elizabeth Black. Mr. Harry Vara to Miss Rose Lee Mixon. Mr. Vernon Carlton to Miss Thelma Warren. We extend our very best wishes to the newly-weds. .Mr. C. C. Campbell, of Columbia, South Carolina, spent a few days in Colleton recently. Mrs. R. W. Adams and children have returned from an extended trip to Alabama. Dr. Carter reports that the stork has been visiting Colleton, bringing to Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Satterwhite, a baby girl; Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Blume, a girl; and to Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Williams, a boy. Mrs. L. R. Davis and children have returned from a very pleasant visit at Hampton, South Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. Vara, of Walter- boro, were the pleasant visitors of Mrs. R. E. Manning. Mr. and Mrs. J. 0. Weeks and children are visiting Mr. Week's mother in North Carolina. We are sorry to report the death of Mrs. C. Z. Padgett, wife of our trimmerman. Mrs. Padgett leaves her husband and six children to mourn her death. We extend to the bereaved family our deepest sympathy. The foreman who does not bring up good under-studies holds himself back. The company cannot advance him unless it has a man for his job. The result is if it has a better job, it may have to go outside to get a man for it, although that's the last thing they want to do.
