Copper: plate

Description

This copper plate was hand made by an unidentified metal smith producing items for sale through the Penland Weavers and Potters, Penland, N.C. This plate has a carefully scalloped edge. It was most likely made during the 1940s to 1960s, although it may have been produced as early as the 1930s. The plate is signed "Penland Handicrafts, Penland, N.C." Penland Weavers and Potters was a craft production center that operated out of the Penland School of Handicrafts (now the Penland School of Crafts) in Mitchell County, N.C. from the early 1920s to the late 1960s.
