Circular No. 7 to the Mayor

  • As Chairman of the Membership Committee, Chase Ambler wrote a number of letters to circulate to various constituents. “Circular No. 7” was written to mayors encouraging them to promote the movement to establish a national park and forest reserve in the southern Appalachians. The letters were penned by Chase P. Ambler (1865-1932), founding member and long-time secretary of the Appalachian National Park Association. One thousand of these circulars were printed for distribution.

The officers and committees are using their utmost energy to this end. It is not only desirable but essential that we have co-operation from all sections. With such co-operation we feel that success is assured; without it, doubtful. We want an organization in your community, both for the moral influence it would exert and for the financial help it would give us. Will you kindly give us on the enclosed blank, for which stamped and addressed envelope is enclosed, the names of some of your citizens who would not only take an interest in our work, but who would give active assistance as well. Perhaps it would be well to include some ladies in the list. The importance of this movement cannot be over estimated. The arguments for the establishment of such a Park cannot be included in the scope of a letter, but we will mail you if you so request literature with full information, and shall be glad to have your hearty- assistance and co-operation.
