X. There shall be appointed at each annual comvention, or immediately thereafter, the following standing committees: Committee on Membership; Committee on Ways and Means; Committee on Memorials and Petitions. The President or Executive Committee shall have the power when necessary to appoint Special Committees. The standing committees shall be appointed by the Executive Committee. , XI. The order of business at the annual conventions, and also at the meetings of the Executive Committee, shall be roll- call, reading of the minutes, report of Secretary and Treas- urer, report of Standing Committee, Unfinished Business, Miscellaneous and Hew Business, Adjoxirning. XII. The Executive Committee shall have power to create and establish at all practicable points auxiliary branches of National this Association/which shall become members of the. Associa- tion. Each auxiliary shall pay Dollars initiation fee, and shall be entitled to five votes in the annual convention of the National Associtation, and five additional votes for every twenty-five members in ex- sess of the first twenty-five. This item includes two drafts of a 5-page document that outlines the by-laws of the Appalachian National Park Association. The original by-laws proposed that the organization be named the “Southern National Park Association” but, by the time it was established, the organization settled on the name “Appalachian.” Its name reflected the association’s specific interest in advocating for a park located in the mountains. Its earliest documents reveal that their preference was for the western North Carolina mountains, but in order to gain support from other states, they expanded the scope of their proposal.
