Basket: honeysuckle, tray

  • wcu_craft_revival-6005.jpg
  • It is not known who made this honeysuckle tray in the permanent collection of Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual. Trays are a typical form of Cherokee basketry. Traditionally, they were used for gaming or to serve food. In this one, the honeysuckle was woven over wide white oak splints. The rim appears to be wrapped with white oak as well. The basket is the natural color of the honeysuckle and oak. It once had two small handles at each end. The date of this tray is unknown.
