  • 2. You may, on your own initiative, make yourself known to the Chairman of any Club activity. They may be found by referring to the quarterly Bulletin, or by consulting the Membership List. 3. Come to Club Headquarters and investigate the material and data to be found there, as well as avail yourself of the knowledge possessed by the members of the Headquarters Committee. 4. Consult the Membership Chairman or any member of the Membership Committee, who will personally see that you are cared for. You have already received, or will receive, a notice from the Supervisor of Trails, which explains the nature of trail work. Current happenings and the schedule of hikes are announced in the quarterly Bulletin sent to Club members. The pamphlet entitled "On Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountain Trails" will acquaint you with the organization's activities. If this booklet, which contains a list of the publications of the Trail Club, has not already been furnished you, please send a card to the Club Office, 808 17th St., N. W. I trust you will take time to read this pamphlet carefully, for it will serve to acquaint you fully with the Club's program and its section of The Appalachian Trail. In addition to trail work, other activities are exploration, leading trips, care of shelters, photography, publicity, map-making, historical research, camping equipment technique, and duties in connection with trail tools. This work is under the supervision of various chairmen listed on the inside cover of the Bulletin. If you have the inclination to further the Club's objective along any of these lines, or along other lines, the various chairmen, or I, will be glad to talk with you. There is always need for active, enthusiastic workers and we do not want you to feel diffident in letting us know the phases of the Club's activities which particularly appeal to you and in which you would like to participate. Application for use of the Club's shelters is made to the Club office (NAtional 5851) between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, except holidays. The regulations governing the use of shelters are set forth in a separate pamphlet. Please note this publication carefully in order to obtain the maximum benefits from the shelter system. In addition to the closed shelters, I particularly call your attention to the availability of the chain of lean-tos. The office at 808 17th St., N. W., is open evenings except Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, from 7 p. m. to 10 p. m. Tools for trail work and publications, may be obtained as well as some articles of camping and hiking equipment, which are available to members at cost. The region which the Club has adopted as its particular interest is described in detail in Guide to Paths in the Blue Ridge. New members may purchase this book at the pre-publication price of $2.50 if paid for in cash within 30 days after notification of their election to membership. The regular price is $3.00 to members and $3.50 to non-members. Special articles dealing with this region and collections of photographs and lantern slides are available.
