This photograph is included in a scrapbook that chronicles Frances Goodrich’s early years in Madison County, North Carolina. Frances Louisa Goodrich (1856-1944) was among the first to promote a revival of weaving in the North Carolina mountains, founding Allanstand Cottage Industries and later donating its assets to the newly formed Southern Highland Handicraft Guild. This circa 1890s photograph shows a house built as a place for visiting teachers to lodge. The photograph is credited to "Dr. Aterbury."
