Item
Item’s are ‘child’ level descriptions to ‘parent’ objects, (e.g. one page of a whole book).
-
In this letter from October 17, 1864, William L. Love writes to Joseph Cathey to make amends after Cathey was poorly portrayed in Love's newspaper. Love urges Cathey to give an account for what he has provided to the families of Confederate soldiers so that his reputation may be restored and so that readers of the newspaper may know his contribution to the war effort.

Times office Oct 17th 1864 Dear Sir Feeling that the article which appeared in the “Times” some weeks since, did you absolute injustice, I beg you to write me and give me the facts as to what you have done for the country - for soldiers families. I trust you will not inudulge any mawkish sensibility on this point, --- refuse to give me the facts desired. You have been misrepresented in my paper inadvertently and I desire to simply set you right before the public. Be kind enough to give me a conside red statement of what you have furnished, at what price, &c and also what was the ___ing price at those times. Give me the quantity of flour & meal, also bacon, the quantity sold each ____ or year, the price you sold at, & the then market price. I would these facts as the basis of an editorial your letter to me will be strictly private. I would not ask it only that you have been wrong ed through me and should be righted. yours very Truly W L Love J Cathey Esq Forks of Pigeon N C
