  • DECISIONS OF THE UNITED STATES GEOGRAPHIC BOARD / Dakota, approved July 1, 1927. (Not Squaw.) Kennaday; peak, Medicine Bow National Forest, Carbon County, "Wyo., in sec. 8, T. 17 N., R. 81 W. Proposed by the Forest Service, in honor of the late Jack Kennaday, forest ranger. (Not Bald.) Kephart; mountain (Mount Kephart), Great Smoky Mountains, Swain County, N. C, and Sevier County, Tenn., 2% miles northeast of Cling- mans Dome, near lat. 35° 35', long. 83° 28'. Proposed by the North Carolina Historical Commission and others in honor of Horace Kephart, 1862- distinguished author and writer on this region. Landsman; creek, rising in southwest corner Kit Carson County, Colo., tributary to the Republican River from the southwest. The name is of German origin. (Not Lastmans, Launchman, nor Lostmans.) Iiovewell; mountain in Washington town, Sullivan County, N. H. So named in honor of Capt. John Love- well, 1725, who encountered many hostile Indians in this vicinity. (Not Lovell, Lo veil's, nor Love- well's.) Melville; hill (Mount Melville), elevation 2,200 feet, San Mateo County, Calif., in sec. 8, T. 7 S., R. 3 W. Proposed by David Starr Jordan, in honor of Dr. Melville Best Anderson, Professor of English Literature in Stanford University. Miller; lake, in T. 27 S., R. 6% E., Klamath County, Oreg., Deschutes National Forest, at the head of Miller Creek. (Not Fish.) Mindalina; island, 260 yards long, 55 feet high, outermost point on south side of Squid Bay entrance, west coast of Yakobi Island, southeastern Alaska. Russian name meaning " almond," from, its shape, given to this island on recommendation of the Coast Survey. Pee Dee1; river, beginning at the. confluence of the Yadkin and Uwharrie Rivers, Montgomery County, N. C, near lat. 35° 28', long. 80° 03', and flowing southeast emptying into Winyah Bay, Georgetown County, S. C. Revision of previous decisions. (Not Great Peedee nor Peedee.) Pennoek; mountain, Medicine Bow National Forest, Carbon County, Wyo., in sec. 14, T. 18 N, R. 82 W. So named after Taylor Pennoek, pioneer sheep grazer in this vicinity. (Not Cedar.) Pohakuloa; point, the northernmost point of the island of Lanai, Territory of Hawaii, near long. 157°. Hawaiian name meaning " very stony." Powder River; pass, Bighorn National Forest, Washakie County, Wyo., in sec. 4, T. 48 N., R. 85 W. (Not Muddy.) Squid; bay, 1% miles long, 2 miles west of Point Theodore, southern part of Yakobi Island, southeastern Alaska. So named by field party, 1926, in charge of Sobieralski. Sleeping Child; creek and hot springs, Ravalli County, Mont., draining to east bank Bitterroot River, near lat. 46° 07', long. 114°. Revision of previous decision. See Weeping Child, Fifth Report. (Not Weeping Child.) Soapstone; cove, narrow inlet, 1 mile long, on eastern side of Soapstone Point, north end of Yakobi Island, southeastern Alaska. Soloma; point and flat, on northeast shore, 1% miles from head of Lis- ianski Inlet, western part of Chi- chagof Island, southeastern Alaska. Russian word meaning " straw." Takanis; peak, 2,270 feet high, lat. 57° 57' 28", long. 136° 28' 03", 2% miles northeast of Takanis Bay, Yakobi Island, southeastern Alaska. This peak overlooks bay of same name. Takanis; peninsula, 2% miles long, 2 miles wide, on northwest side of Takanis Bay, southwestern part of Yakobi Island, southeastern Alaska.
