Western North Carolina Heritage
-
A pre-cursor to the current "Asheville's Built Environment," project, the collection contains materials related to ethnic heritage in western North Carolina. As a demonstration grant project, it was intended to explore the many facets of a collaborative educational endeavor in small to mid-sized communities and to gather information on ethnic minorities in those communities. The project process required the creation of a collaborative digital resource and the assessment of the resource. The intent was an educational resource that would be available to the local, regional, and national community. The resource contains material selected from four institutions in western North Carolina: University of North Carolina at Asheville ; Asheville-Buncombe County Library System ; Asheville Art Museum ; YMI Cultural Center. It begins the process of documenting the cultures of many of the ethnic and racial minorities in western North Carolina.
