THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN OTHER Photo by Laura Odom/STAFF Photo by Laura Odom/STAFF Destiny Gallegos, Allie Hobbs and Brooklyn Lipscomb are very proud of their snowman! Continuations Winter Weather On Saturday, Jan. 25, the afternoon brought sleet and snow which gave WCU anicy afternoon. The sidewalks and roads that had not been salted gave the few students who ventured out a When asked why a year long event Monteith replied, I think the one thing, coming froma student affairs perspec- tive, we want to ensure is that these experiences the students have outside of the classroom that one thing to have a great kick off event but it is im- portant to sustain that momentum throughout the year. We have a decided to do a yearlong celebration so that folks coming in whether they are a graduating senior SGA Update Free WCU themed rally towels will be, hopefully, handed out during the next basket chance to practice their | ice skating skills. That afternoon also hosted. a very short power outage. Students, faculty and staff of WCU and the immediate area are urged to take the proper precautions in the even of bad weather. The or if they are coming in the fall of 2014 as fresh- men they can experience the full 125 celebration. It is important to us as a steering committee and as a campus to keep the celebration alive. When asked why the 125 anniversary was important to students, Wargo said, One of the things we want the stu- dents to know about the 125 anniversary is the rich history and heritage of the university. Often students come in and the experience Western anew, but the university ball game against Appa- . lachian State University. Go support your Cata- mounts. Student Government elections will be held soon. Applications inhabitants of WCU are advised to dress proper- ly for winter weather by wearing layers, keeping dry, and driving slowly. For more information visit the winter weather preparation website at ready.gov/winter-weath- _ er. Stay safe, students! is really grounded in 125 years of rich history, heritage, and a commit- ment to public out reach to western North Caro- lina. We want students to _ be a part of that commu- nity, not just now while they are here. We want them recognize that what they contribute to the institute will live on. And at some point we will be displaying their historical artifacts. For more information or a list of events check out celebrate125.wcu. edu. will be made available shortly.
