  • news February 17,1999 i man safety highli February 9 Officers responded to a disturbance on the 3rd floor of Walker where a male as banging on the door of a female at 11:55 a.m. Officers identified and counseled both parties about their behavior. The male student was referred Housing for an escort violation. An employee at Reid reported that a female had been in the women's locker room when she saw, a male looking into the locker room from windows on the roof at 6:26 p.m. The suspect was not located. Officers responded to a report of a fight on the 8th floor of Scott at 9:48 p.m. One female student received a broken nose as she attempted to break up the fight. S,he was transported to Harris Regional Hospital for treatment. One female student was banned from Scott Hall for her participation in the fight. A female non-student was banned from campus for her participation. February 10 Officers arrested a female student who had been banned from Scott Hall yesterday after being involved in a fight there. The student was found back in Scott at 5:50 p. m. February 11 As a result of a follow-up investigation , a male student admitted that he had illegally used an ATM card which belonged to another student to remove $60 from the victim's account. The incident will be referred to Student Affairs for adjudication. A student reported that his backpack was stolen from a workstation in Hunter Library between 10:10 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. He found his backpack in another area in the library, but his wallet and was missing. February 12-14 As a result of a follow-up investigation on the theft of a bank debit card in cooperation with the Gardner-Webb University police, two male students from Gardner- Webb admitted that they had participated in the theft and use of the card in Sylva, Boiling Springs, and Shelby. Charges are pending. Officers responded to Graham Infirmary where a subject reported that the front door was standing open when he arrived and then closed and he became locked inside at 3:00 p. m. on 2/14. The subject got out and left before officers arrived. February 15 A female student pled guilty to a provisional licensee violation and was sentenced to 1 year probation, a $ 100 fine and costs, and 24 hours of community service work. A charge of speeding was dismissed. A male student pled guilty to driving while consuming a malt beverage and was fined and must pay costs of court. Officers found flyers left on several vehicles in the HFR lot at 3:30 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a fight on the 5th floor of Walker Hall at 3:58 p. m. They found no one there and no one who knew anything about a fight. A student reported that several people were jumping on cars in the Field House lot at 7:35 p. m. Officers located the suspects and examined the cars. Two of the cars belonged to the suspects. One other car belonged to a visitor. No damage was detected at this time. The incident is referred to Student Affairs. One of the suspects lied to police officers and that violation is also referred to Student Affairs. Officers charged a male student with breaking a fire extinguisher glass in Harrill Hall at 12:05 a. m. The student's hand was cut by the glass. Friends transported him to Harris Regional for treatment after he refused transport by the SECT team. Officers apprehended two males who are members of a fraternity who attempted to steal a sorority composite from Scott Hall at 3:49 a. m.
