Melrose said that their jobs require planning for many hours more than it actually takes to put on the trip. Because of all the planning, every trip should run smoothly. Helder and Melrose have gotten professional instructors for each trip; and the equipment. Melrose savs, is the best available. On each trip, participants are given safety precautions, such as information on how to prevent hypothermia. Because ol group rates and the student activities fee. which conies out of every student's tuition, the receive very high discounts, lor all of these reasons, Melrose sav s. oni outdoors program is one of the strongest in the southeast. Melrose emphasized that these trips provide a learning experience for everybody who goes. IMP volunteers included. There are still positions available in the outdoor programs, so Melrose encourages people to get involved. Trips are usually sold out two weeks ahead, and the Outdoors Committee can't reserve spaces for people who haven't paid, so be sure to plan well in advance. If you want additional information, then go to the main office in the University Center. A decision by local distributors to stop leasing kegs and other party equipment to fraternities and sororities could prompt a major change in the greek system. The distributors are reportedly limiting their own legal liability by requiring individual fraternity members to sign and pay for alcohol purchases. The Interfraternity Council is studying alternatives, to include eliminating serving of beer at fraternity events. TO CLEAR HER SON'S NAME, a Tennessee woman filed a $3 million lawsuit over the young man's death from an alcohol overdose suffered after a Tennessee State U. fraternity party. The suit, filed in Davidson County Circuit Court, charges TSU and its administrators with negligence for failing to investigate reports of fraternity hazing. The mother claims the official account of the incident blames her son for reckless drinking he was forced to consume alcohol, as part of the initiation ritual. In a recent survey conducted at Western Carolina University by the College Republicans, a new trend seems to have been found. That trend is a possible swing to the right. However slight it might be. it is still an apparent shift. The results that were found from this canvas were taken from approximately one-eighth of the campus population. That is nearly one thousand people. This percentage, according to the Gallop Co., is a more than adequate summary on how students feel about the coming election on November sixth. It appears that Ronald Reagan's coat tails are going to be long enough to sweep into office many of the Republican candidates here in the Ole North State. Jesse Helm's apparent lead seems to be consistent with state wide polls, as well as Bill Hendon's. The surprise comes in the President's huge lead of nearly 52 percent and Jim Martin is closing his gap with Edminstin. The College Republicans also invite the campus to be watching for a voter registration booth to be set up next week.
