From Page 3 Besides campus fund raisers, the North Carolina Chapter of the Leukemia Society also sponsors special events such as bike-a-thons, super-swim classics, and walk-a-thons. During the month ot September they also sponsor a residential campaign, where neighborhood people raise money by knocking on doors. I he money raised goes to help leukemia patients as well as further leukemia research. I here are currently 497 people on the North Carolina chapters patient rolls. Anyone that has leukemia, no matter what their background of financial need, can receive some help from the Leukemia Society, fhe North Carolina Chapter also has given Duke University and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill S347,(X)() in research grants. All of this money and support is given in an effort to help leukemia patients and also prevent it. through research and new techniques, for those who have not contracted thc disease. The North Carolina Chapter last year raised $282,000.00 to help the light against leukemia.
