Entertainment November 5, 1981 Page 16 Mime Magic A smiling and laughing magical mime suddenly pops up in Brown Cafeteria, the UC and several other campus buildings. Who is this guy'.' He's Tim Settimi who will perform next Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Hocy Auditorium. According to confirmed reports, this guy covers more ground than a Greyhound bus. Some say you need skates to keep up with him. In past visits to WCU, Settimi has surprised students by giving an on-the-spot mime lesson indoors and out. One can always watch these students turn into a bunch of monstrous showoffs. Settimi uses movement and music to capture everyone's imagination. He fills the show with characters- rowdy, silly, pathetic-who strike chords of recognition in all. Sponsored by Last Minute Productions, the Tuesday performance will cost $1 for students and $1.50 for non- students. Astrology_ Astrology is a part of our everyday lives whether we like it or not. Even those of you who don't believe in such nonsense will read astrological forecasts to see how the world is to fare. For that reason, the Western Carolinian is proud, or at least willing to use the space, to present a weekly horoscope dedicated to the college student. Pictured above are Gordon Nunn (L) and John Haynes (R), members of the WCU Percussion Ensemble. The ensemble performed Twentieth-Century works including "Music for Pieces of Wood," "Swords of Moda-Ling," and "Images II," a piece for tape, percussion and piano. "Images II" employs the use of musique concrete, a compositional technique that involves using sound sources previously considered as nonmusical—that is, common everyday noises of all kinds. These sounds are manipulated electronically and recorded on tape. The performance of "Images II" was a combination of a tape (recorded in that manner) and the Percussion Ensemble. Percussion instruments have emerged as solo instruments in the Twentieth-Century and composers are making use of contemporary techniques such as musique concrete. The Percussion Ensemble Recital was only one of many performances scheduled for Fall Semester. The Western Carolinian is Western Carolina University's student-run newspaper. The paper was published as the Cullowhee Yodel from 1924 to 1931 before changing its name to The Western Carolinian in 1933.
