A native ol 'Harnett County, Senate in 1974 after si ncral. lying s . Morgan was s N. C. member of the Banking, sing and Urban Af- fai Com Morgan med Services Committee, the Ethics Committee and the Select Committee on Intelligence, He also serves as chairman of the Banking Subcommittee on Rural Housing. During his tenure as attorney general. Morgan reorganized that office to make it more efficient. He created the Alio General's Consumer Protection Divisio helped develop a police information network linking more than 200 law enforcement agencies. Special units of the Stale Bureau of Investigation were formed to light drug traffic and organized crime in the slate, and Morgan's colleagues in the rest of the nation voted him outstanding attorney general in the U.S. Morgan served for ten years in the stale senate before becoming attorney general, and in 1965 he served as president pro tempore of thai body. Morgan is a gradute of Hast Carolina University and the Wake Forest University School of Law. He has served nine terms as chairman of the ECU board of trustees, and is a trustee of l.ees-McRae College. More than 900 students will receive degrees at the Congressman Udall to lecture here Congressman Morris K. Udall of Arizona will speak on "The Onrushing 1980s" Monday at 8 p.m. in Hoey. Udall. who has served in the U. S. House of Representatives since 1961, has drawn high praise for his record of legislative achievement. Former House Speaker Carl Albert once said, "Morris Udall has written one of the most remarkable legislative records of all A native of St. John's, Arizona, a Mormon settlement founded by his grandfather, Udall comes from a family with a tradition of politics and public service. His father. Levi S. Udall. served as chief justice of the Arizona Supreme Court before his death, and Morris Udall's older brother, Stewart, served before him in C ongress and later served eight years as Secretary of the Interior under Presidents Kennedy and Johnson. Udall is the author of two books, "The Job of the Congressman" and "Education of a Congressman." In the Congress, he has supported the Civil Rights Act. the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Medicare, and open housing and population control legislation. Udall was student body president at the University of Arizona, and was formerly an Air Force captain in World War II. He played basketball at Arizona and with the professional Denver Nuggets. I here will be no admission charge. Art exhibit staged for next week A special exhibit of paintings and drawings has been organized for viewing during the week of WCU graduation activities. Mav 30 June 5. rhe exhibit, which will be on view in the art gallerj in Belk. will include works by Jim Smith. WCU associate professor of art, and three graduating seniors, John Williams, Thomas Addison and Michael Guice. I he gallery will be open Monday through Friday from 8a.m. mini noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. Barents and guests attending this year's graduation ceremonies June 5 will have the opportunity to see the exhibit between l> a.m. and noon on June -I and 5. The gallery will open again June 27 with an International libers Invitational Exhibit. Canoe clinic offered Saturday A beginning-level canoe clinic will be held May 28-29 under the sponsorship of WCU's University Center and the Cullowhcc Wilderness Outfitter. The clinic will begin at 9 a.m. both days at Cullowhee Wilderness Outfitter, and will end at about 5:30 p.m. ParticpantS will have the opportunity to learn basic canoe strokes and safely measures, and will gain experience first on an easy river and then on a more difficult one. Participants should wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothing, and should bring a change of dry clothes. The cost of the clinic is $10 per person, which includes everything but lunch, which participants should bring with them in a plastic bag. ' Summer program deadline nears Preregistration for both sessions of WCU's Summer Recreation Program ends tomorrow from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Reid. The program includes classes in swimming, life saving, and tennis. Recreational activities include gymnastics, bowling, tennis, and swimming. Parents who wish to preregister their child must bring a proof of medical exam to Reid Gym during the preregistration period. Registration for the first four-week session will be on the first day of the session, June 13. Registration for the second session will be on the first day of the second session. July 11. Registration for both dates will begin at 9 a.m. in Brecsc Gym. The fifth annual Gymnastics Camp will be July 24-30 and more than 100 people are expected to participate. Three sessions of a baseball day camp will be held under the direction of Bill Haywood. The sessions are June 20-24, June 27-July 1. and July 5-9.
