The Cats were at Elon College Wednesday evening to face a team they defeated in overtime last week, Saturday, it will be Belmont Abbey, a team that beat the Cats by one, 83-82, earlier this month. Then next Monday, Western will be in Jefferson City, Tennessee to face high flying Carson-Newman. The Eagles, already a 20- game dinner this year, downed the Catamounts 72-71 back in November, Guards Howard Winston and Larry Grant and forwards Albert Toomer and Glymph Childress have been the backbone of Western's recent success. Toomer, a 6-4 sophomore, paces the scarers with a 14.0 average while Winston is tossing in 13,5 points a game. Grant las been the floor leader and Childress is the Cats top backboard performer. Volunteers Wanted According to SGA vice president Barry Dodson, the student senate needs student volunteers to help expedite committee work. The duties involve general foot-work, investigative work, and research into student problems. The jobs will involve draw ing up resolutions for the senate and conducting surveys of student opinion. There are nine committees that need workers : Rules, Clubs and Organizations, University Services, Academic Affairs (which needs ten volunteers), Advancement of the I tv- versity, Men's Affairs and Women's Affairs, Commuter Affairs, and Finance, Dodson said time does not allow the senators to do all the necessary comriittee work themselves. The Western Carolinian is Western Carolina University's student-run newspaper. The paper was published as the Cullowhee Yodel from 1924 to 1931 before changing its name to The Western Carolinian in 1933.
