Doug Divis, a Dean of Student Development said that the big- gest purpose of the meeting was to determine some way of getting information to the students concerning the conflicts between the Student Handbook and the Rules of the court system. The Handbook was published two months before the Rules of Procedure were written and approved, and there are con- flicts. The Handbook, for ex= ample, says that only the Student Faculty Judiciary Committee has the right to suspend a student. The Rules of Procedure give that right to the student courts, "The Handbook is wrong," Student Government President Greg Lockamy said, "and the rules are right/' Divis agreed that the court system doeshav? the right to susp:>n'L It was agreed in the meeting, though, that only the President of the University should hive the power to expo! t sir- dent, "since that is final," Davis said. Bec^u.;.? saveral points are in need of ci:ir fication. Davis, and Dr. Herb Reinhard, who was also at the meeting, are in the process of preparing a supplement to the Handbook thai will help clarify the points in question. Greg Lockamy, student government president, has re • sponded to the Student Senate and the resolution requesting a committee be established to in • vestigate the executive of ■ fice's appropriations of funds. Last Wednesday student senator Rob Parker introduced a bill calling for the investigation. He claimed Lockamy has misappropriated funds by estab lishing stipends for two officers and for some workers in Student Government Productions. The SGA constitution allows for one presidential assistant who keeps ten office hours per week. The stipend has been approved by the senate. Uickamy has no presidential assistant as such, and two of the comptroller's assistants receive stipends. The constitution docs not approve stipends for Student (Jov- ernment Productions. In his printed statement Lockamy claims that he took the money for his presidential assistant and divided it between the workers in the comptroller's office. "This way," he says, "I get twice the hours for the amount of monej," As far as funds for Student Government Productions, U>c- kamy stated that the money comes through the office of the Dean of Student Activities. Student Government Productions, Lockamy claimed, is merely a new name. Students, through student government, are handling the concerts and groups thatappear. Student government, though, cannot sign contracts with the groups. "At no place, nor at anytime does the Student Senate approve or disapprove the money, the personnel, the stipends nor the contracts of student Government Productions, This, as stipulated by the University President, is under the supervision and direction of the Executive Office, with 'ina! approval or disapproval of these actions by the President of the University, through the office of the Dean of Student Activities. Student Senate President Sager Williams stated that thus far no investigating committee has been appointed. He said, though, that "probably" the committee would be co-chaired by himself and Parker. WCU's flag is rescued Some people go to great heights for Old Glory, Yesterday one man almost went higher, but not quite, in a supreme (and successful) rescue of the U.S. flag from its drooping, half- mast situation on the Bird Building mainmast. It was a drama which might have distracted anyone with a 2:00 McKee ringside seat. And it did. An unidentified workman, with his supporting crew, opened an enormous aluminum extension ladder n wilhin 15 feel or so of the flagpole's crossbar. He then proceeded to sling a rope grappling-hook- style over the bar, shinny up, and somehow remove the flag from its improper mooring, He slid back down to the ladder and she followed, one eyehole undone, to drape in her windblown stripes (with affection, no doubt) the man who had rescued her. Word -of mouth stated that thepred cament developed Friday, and the flag flew day and night during the weekend. Kansas City? Cats play tomorrow
