Navy offers Uie very best way to fulfill your military obligation and learn a trade and secure your future while serving your country. 'Daily Tar Heel' SitedCapitalistic Literature (ACP)-The Daily Tar Heel, student newspaper of Uie University of North Carolina, is subversive, capitalistic literature not fit to be seen by the citizens of Uie glorious Democratic Peoples Republic of East Germany. At least that's what Uie East German border guards at Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin told students Richard Rodgers and Andyilalton, assistant business manager, when Uiey went across Uie border from West to East Berlin during Uie Christmas holidays, Uie newspaper reported. Rodgers carried an issue on the trip to take a picture of someone reading it in sight of Uie border. They managed to take Uie picture before Uie border guards confiscated Uie paper. "Somewhere in East Berlin there are about six border guards getting ready to defeat us, probably as a result of Uie lead story on women's rules," Rodgers said. President Forced To Resign Wilmore, Ky. (CPS)-Students at Asbury College, a traditionally conservative church- supported institution here, may have played a significant role in getting Uie Board of Trustees to fire Uie school's president. Students and faculty members have been unhappy with the administration of Dr. Karl K. Wilson since he assumed the Asbury presidency nine months ago. The Board of Trustees discussed Dr. Wilson at a meeting in late November and voted to continue him as president, More than 200 of Asbury's 1,068 students responded with a petition to the trustees asking that Dr. Wilson be fired. The students charged in part, Uiat the president had censored Uie college's newspaper and had demanded Uiat some articles which were already prepared be removed. Last week, Uie trustees reconsidered their previous decision, and Wilson was fired. The board chairman said Wilson was fired because of his "inability to cooperate with Uie Board of Trustees, Uie faculty, the alumni, and Uie student body to implement Uie school's policies," The case still is not closed however, Wilson has refused to leave Asbury and still claims he is president. He says he was illegally fired because Uie action was taken by Uie trustees' executive committee and not Uie full board. Wilson plans to stay on until an April meeting of Uie school's full board of trustees. As a result, both Wilson and Dr. Cornelius Hager, who was named interim president by Uie trustees, presently claim to be CONTINUED Page 4 BY DKKU LAURIANT1 The "(enter Pharmacy" will soon open in Cullowhee under the supervision of Henry Leigh. Leigh, a registered pharmacist and president of Uie State of Franklin Pharmaceutical Association, recently said Uiat Uie store would be a 'complete drug store." *We will carry all Uie regular items of a drug store plus a complete line of front merchandise." The store will have 2500 feet of floor space. It will also have additional space for expanded medical services. Included in Uie plans are provisions for complete air conditioning, wall to wall carpet, "adequate lighting and decorator colors," said Leigh. Leigh, a graduate of Drake University in Des Moines, went on to add Uiat, "Uie store will be sub-divided into departments. "There will be one for camera and photography plus black and white and color finishing. Another department will be for cosmetics, "A full line of several major brands and partial lines on others.* Leigh went on to say Uiat Uie other departments will include greeting cards, a gift nook, candies, some canned foods and groceries and a section for patent medicines. Delegates To Attend Model U.N. On March 6 Uie Tenth Annual Middle South Model United Nations will convene at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Representing Western Carolina University will be Bill Biggers, Max Hopper, Drew Lauranti and Tom Potts. The Middle South Model United Nations was formed under the guidance of the United Nations to promote understanding of the UN among college students. Meetings are held each year to discuss and debate current problems which are facing Uie nations of the world. Western's delegations will be trying to retain Uie award of "Best Delegation" which was won last year while representing Uie Republic of South Africa. This year Uie delegation will be representing Turkey, an important nation due to Uie Cyprus situation. Biggers, Hopper and Potts were all delegates to last year's General Assembly. The advisors to Uie delegation are Dr. Eddin, Mr. Latimer and Mr. Carpenter, The delegation is co-sponsored by Uie International Relations Club and Uie Debate Club. He further added, "We have established accounts with all Uie major pharmaceutical companies, "I don't believe in buying Uie -so called 'cheap'drugs because often their pharmaceutical re suits are not as good as Uiose which have better testing procedures,* He said, when asked about Uie store's hours, "Since Uiis is a new phase in Uie community, we will try by trial and error, "We will always be striving to meet Uie needs of Uie community and Uie university, though. We will be only too glad to receive comments and criticism as long as it is constructive,* l.eigh concluded by saying, "Our prices will be competitive and we will always strive to give personal attention to the individual customer," Student Art Competition Begins This year Uie Sixth Annual Student Art Competition is being jointly sponsored by Uie Erdahl-Cloyd Union Gallery Committee and Uie Presbyterian Campus Ministry. It is expected Uiat Uiis competition will be greater Uiis year than in all Uie previous competitions. Two prominent art experts will be judges for Uie competition: Mr. Eugene Myers, Dean of Uie Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. and Mr. Gudmund Vigtel from Uie High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Ga.
