  • Thursday, October 27, 1966 THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN Page 5 ALONG GREEK ROW Tau Kappa Epsilon DELTA ZETA The sisters of Theta Iota Chapter of Delta Zeta Sorority held their annual Founder's Day Celebration in the faculty lounge of the Hunter Library on Sunday, Oct 23. The purpose of the Founder's Day program is to honor the six founders of Delta Zeta. Each year, the Founder's Day Celebration is highlighted with the announcement of the Delta Zeta Woman of the Year. This announcement is made simul= taneously throughout the sororities' 170 college chapters and 205 chartered alumni chapters. Mrs. Miriam M. Swain, internationally famous author of children's stories, hasbeense- lected as Delta Zeta's Woman of the Year for the year 1966-67. Mrs. Swain, an alumnae of Epsilon Chapter, Indiana University, will receive the Woman of the Year Medallion at a banquet held in her honor in Indianapolis. Acitve in her home, church, and community, Mrs. Swain is included in Who's Who in Indiana, Who's Who in the East, and the International Society of Arts and Letters. After the formal ceremony, the Sisters attended the morning service of the Cullowhee Baptist Church, followed by luncheon together in the cafeteria. The sister of Theta Iota Chapter of Delta Zeta Sorority gave a get-acquainted tea Oct. 23, honoring Miss Peggy Zeigler, Dean of Women at Western Carolina College. The tea was given in hope that the women faculty members and faculty wives would become better acquainted with Dean Zeigler, and each other, Delta Zeta reported. Shirley Jackson served as over-all chairman of the affair. Betty Allen, Cora Lynn Lynch, and Becky Young handled refreshments. Caroline Aiken was in charge of invitations. »♦♦>*»* »»*j »*»*«»»»»*:< »#i NOTICE Payment of winter quarter fees may be made at the Accounting Office after Nov. 1. Rather than see his work maligned he sacrificed it in hopes of a better day to come. President BUI Upchurch says this of John Roper, "Mr itoper has been an active part of student government since his first day on this campus. As a Sena ■ tor his work was unbelievable and always for the good of the student government and the student body. As my Presidential assistant he has been someone whom I could trust to always present the straight facts tome and to always know what was going on with the student body. He has been a friend as well as a colleague. John has been my right arm and he will definitely be hard to replace. I respect his decision and I will always consider his judgment wise." This is Russ Kennedy of Balboa Island, California, on an in-port field'trip as a student aboard Chapman College's floating campus. The note he paused to make as fellow students went ahead to inspect Hatshepsut's Tomb in the Valley of the Kings near Luxor, he used to complete an assignment for his Comparative World Cultures professor. Russ transferred the 12 units earned during the study-travel semester at sea to his record at the University of California at Irvine where he continues studies toward a teaching career in life sciences. As you read this, 450 other students have begun the fall semester voyage of discovery with Chapman aboard the s.s. RYNDAM, for which Holland-America Line acts as General Passenger Agents. In February still another 450 will embark from Los Angeles for the spring 1967 semester, this time bound for the Panama Canal, Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, Nigeria, Senegal, Morocco, Spain. Portugal, The Netherlands, Denmark, Great Britain and New York. For a catalog describing how you can include a semester at sea in your educational plans, fill in the information below and mail.
