Announcements The resultant lack of dormitory heating has given rise to campus rumors that no heat will be available until November Many students have questioned why the boiler was notinsialled earlier in the year—this past summer, for example-when the need for its facilities was not so crreat. In a recent interview, Mr. James E. Kirkpatrick, Business Manager of the College, com- mo<ft3>1 f>. this and several other issues. "The reason why the boiler was not installed this summer is simple: the plans for Its Installation were not completed in time. The boiler is being installed at the earliest possible opportunity." When questioned about student complaints of a lack of heat In the dormitories, he said that this was probably due to the fact that "no heat has been put into the dormitories as yet. You'll probably also find that those who have complained about the cold have had a window open in the room at night. To my knowledge, however, there have been no complaints sent to the steam plant concerning i lack of heat in the dormitory rooms." Benton president is Mary Bart- les; vice president is Donna Cornelius and secretary is Jo Ann Baggett Already severly handicapped by a lack of adequate facilities, the problems of the laundry have been multiplied by this present lack of steam pressure. Originally designed to provide laundry service for 800 students, the laundry is now used by 2800. The boiler for the laundry, which is designed for a capacity of 160 pounds of steam pressure, rarely rises above 100 pounds and in most cases remains much below that figure. Commenting on the situation at the laundry, Kirkpatrick had this to say: "There are plans for a future expansion of the laundry facilities, but this will not occur for quite some time yet The expanded facilities at the laundry will include additional storage space for the bundles which have already been processed." When questioned about the possibility of delivering laundry back to the dormitories, he said that there were no plans at present for such an arrangement.
