  • Page 4 THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN Thursday, July 18. 1968 Feedback Dear Editor; Mr. Klrkpatrick's statement in the July U, 1968 Western Carolinian was viewed by most commiting students as incre- dible. It does, however, re- fleet this institution's innorance of Uie commuting student's parking problem. Just where does he propose the 500-600 cars, which were handled inthe parking lot that now contains the beginnings of the new business building, find parking space fall quarter? The five commuter parking areas are equipped to handle only about one half of the 1200 commuter autos that were registered last year. I find little reason to believe Uiat commuter registration of autos will change significantly next school year with an increased student body. Present commuter parking areas as Uiey now exist are as follows: Baptist Church, 102 spaces; Methodist Church, 62 spaces; Reid Gym, 64 spaces; Student Union, 260 spaces; M:Kee Lot, 42 spaces. Total: 530 spaces. It is significant to note that Uie Baptist Church lot is also occupied with B sticker cars and the Methodist Church lot is also occupied with some D , sticker cars. My question to Mr. Kirkpatrick is — "Is 530 parking spaces really adequate for 1200 plus commuting autos?" Thomas W„ Hardy Twins . From Page 1. Father Rivers added: "The Committee gratefully acknowledges the special help of the people of the county; the ministers, students of Western Carolina University, and Uie Jaycees of Sylva." On July 14 the W.ird Twins Day was observed in area churches, and about $1200 was donated by members of the churches. At WCU volunteers from the campus radio station and the Wesley Foundation have raised about $70 for the Fund. On Uie Fourth of July the Sylva Jaycees furnished a table at the celebration to received 3n- ations. He further added, "To thank all these people is not enough. The news media of Uie County would be left out as well as the hosts of others who have silently been working and praying for the Ward Family. Above all let us continue to remember these folks." Contributions may be sent to Mr. W. J. Fisher, c/o The First Union National Bank, Sylva, N. C. Conference . . . HELP SMOKEY i£S$t BEAR PREVENT SWUj FOREST FIRES V?5^ IN THE SOUTH FlightOfATurtle By G. E. Swartzstein 'Nothing much doing these days.' That's what the old folks say when they sit around Uie store. 'Times aint what Uiey used to be.' You hear stuff like Uiat all Uie time. It doesn't get to you real bad if you're a chair, or a barrel, or even a candy stick. It takes a lot to get to things like Uiat, but if you run the store; that's something else again. You take it for so long, then one day something happens up in Uie grey room, and bam, you order all of Uiem out and swear Uiat you're going to close up and go live with your virgin aunt in Ohio. The next day you have a change of heart and decide to let them come back. That's how you are. Soft and easy to get passed. That's how you are and that's how Uie world is too, mother, so get used to it. The old men come back and the virgin aunt stays in Ohio. I know things won't change and so do you, deep down. You know you'll get by man. You sell some stuff along Uie way and raise a quickie toward heaven when things go right. That's just how things are.
