  • Thursday, July 18, 1968 Paw 1 ... From Page 2. Bermudas and a dirty undershirt. Cause for celebration! Walter and Wennifer Wallflower have found each other and are sitting around being bashful and not knowing quite what to do. They are enjoying Uie first coke Uiey have ever had in Uie Towne- house, but Uiey plan to be adventurous and go to Uie Hideaway tonight, They feel uptown today and each one wonders if it was the Ultra-Brite Uiat did it, Not too far away is a most engrossing conversation about the influence of Uie October Manifesto and Uie literary techniques of Boris Pasternak. It's Irving and Inez Intellect, undoubtedly smart, possibly maladjusted. and probably Communists They talk a lot among themselves, and enjoy an intellectual snobbery rivaled only by Coley*s and Cori's social snootiness. Just ask them what time it is -- you'll get a history of Uie hourglass. By far the most noticeable personages up front are Artie and Amanda Art-Student They're passing around a roll of string and a bowl full of do-it-yourself love beads. At closer viewing, it turns out that Amanda is reaUy Artie. They carry an old briefcase full of posters of the Maharishi, along with a doorknob and a month's supply of marijuana. Their temperament is it's usual abstract self, but Amanda wears a button Uiat says "Sex makes the world go round . , and round . . and round." Gordon and Gladys Grad-Stu- dent are here too, complaining about their latest education test. They've been living together in Gordon's room since summer school started, and have decided that they're coming back next year. What Uiey dont know is Uiat Hubby and wife back home in Charlotte have discovered each other too and are tying up an interesting quadrangle. They're okay, even with Uieir straight collar white shirts and floppy dresses and varicose veins and other inevitable ac- couterments of age. The table full of boisterous children is Uie playgound of Gary and Ginny (.ifted child. They somehow combine money, astronomical intelligence and unbelievable table manners into two walking miniature monsters. Ask them what time it is and Gary throws a hot dog you while Ginny eats cole slaw with her fingers. Then they explain Uie fullest detail of the HIDE -A - WAY ORDERS TO GOI Relaxed Atmosphere Opposite Entrance to Campus 293 4400 College degree today. THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN sundial and wonder aloud how college students can be so stupid. So exit Albert and Alice Average, who have managed to be nice to everybody and stiU haven't been seen; who wouldn't be caught dead without their turtlenecks, cuffless trousers, or Villager shirtwaist. Exit wondering. Page a CULLOWHEE BARBER SHOP Your Buireut Am You Like It Lebem Dills Bruce Middleton Across From College Gulf OPEN TUES. —SAT. fcM uw-•*• *■. If you're good enough to be an Army Officer, don't settle for less If you were deferred to finish college, it's time to consider the Army's alternative to the draft. If you don't, you may spend the next few years in work that doesn't fit your own future plans. The Army's alternative offers an opportunity to work at important levels of responsibility now, not five or ten years after graduation. We're talking about becoming a U. S. Army officer. THE ARMY'S COLLEGE OPTION PROGRAM WILL GUARANTEE A COLLEGE GRADUATE ONE OF THE THREE OFFICER CANDIDATE SCHOOLS. IF YOU SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THE FOUR MONTHS OF PREPARATORY TRAINING AND SIX MONTHS OF OCS YOU ARE THEN OBLIGATED TO SERVE ONLY TWO YEARS OF ACTIVE SERVICE AS A COMMISSIONED-OFFICER.
